I'm not a trends person, so imagine how confused I was at the mention of a “Pop Up Bar”. Confession time: I thought a “Pop-up bar” was a stall that can be erected or “popped up” anywhere, anytime, but I immediately had my reservations because you can’t exactly have a function to launch a stall, right??? Eish, I forget that this is Jozi, anything is possible since there was a function to open an envelope. *sigh*
Anywhoo, The Union Pop Up Bar is situated directly opposite YDE, next to Truworths Man and not so far from Foschini. Actually, that was me giving my plus 1 directions to Melrose Arch’s new hotspot. Lol. It’s not exactly a typical chic, cosmopolitan lounge set-up that you’ll find in Sandton’s party district.
It’s a mixture of urban, meets downtown Jozi (I mean Arts on Main, not Noord street asseblief.) The decor is rather conflicting as the walls and floors are very much industrial, much like an unfinished job, yet the furnisher is sophisticated. Wooo… listen to me sounding like some interior décor guru. *Hides*
Shem, I felt bad for some people that arrived there looking like they were from their matric dances. It’s always sad when people overdress for functions, but atleast it gives us something to laugh and talk about. Hahaha…
They tried to get everyone mega sloshed with endless cocktails and booze flowing like rivers of the Jordan, but unfortunately there was no drama whatsoever. Booooring. Alas, my plus 1 and I decided to dominate the dance floor until the music stopped. Oh, before you judge me for being a party animal, the music stopped playing just after 23:00. Yep 11pm. Hehehe…

It was just before we left that I found out that a Pop Up bar, is very much like your traditional bar, the only difference is that it's temporary and can invade any building or space. So, in about 3 months the Union Pop Up Bar in Melrose Arch will be no more. So go get your drinks on and experience something fresh.
