As everyone knows, last week the SAMA nominees were announced... and this year, the organizers decided to have a morning event to announce the nominees and an evening event for the media to meet those nominees. Sounds innovative right? Well, not exactly... here's the problem - a large number of media people attended the morning event, so coming back at night to see the same people was not exactly a unique experience. I only attended the evening function and was left wondering if it was necessary to have 2 events, since the excitement of the event was as much as Donald's 1 nomination.
It didn't help that there was no food and attendees were left to swallow their saliva, because of the cash bar. Imagine what will happen when the e-toll system takes effect? Tjo, people are gonna collapse from dehydration and starvation. Times are tough and petrol prices are sky high... Atleast Amstel drinkers were saved by the drinks voucher.
It wasn't all wasted though... I was blown away by Zonke's golden voice. Wow... I felt like I have been living under a rock all these years and only resurfaced at the event to hear such a smooth voice... Maybe it's because auto-tune seems to have taken over Mzansi.. *Side eyes a certain leading nominee*
Our own
Jason Derulo Lloyd Cele is making waves in the music scene hey... It got me wondering if there's an Idols curse, since the winners fade away with the hype and the other finalists go on to make names for themselves.
Loyiso was there too and did a collabo with Lloyd on their track "Thandoooooooo." I had no idea he was one of the nominees...
Micasa are really on top of their game, even though they are fairly new in the industry. Did they cause the death of Liquid Deep? #JustAsking
Here's another nominee, Nomfusi.
Seriously though, I thought I knew my South African music but looking at the nominees list proves otherwise. So, please school me here, how does Zahara got nominated for Record of the Year for a track that was in an album which won at last year's SAMAs. Someone tried to explain, but I think they are as confused as me but are pretending to understand. Hehehe...
Here's another hard working lady. She's officially Miss SABC 1. From Zone 14, to Live Amp to Real Goboza to Tropica Island of Treasure. Wooooow. Big Ups gal.
The excitement starts now and all roads will lead to Sun City come the 10th and 11th of May for the 19th South African Music Awards.
Who do you think should host them this time round?PS: Thanks to Khetha for saving the day after my camera gave in.
