Breaking news! Tina Mkwaiwa causes drama at Feather Awards as she arrives in wheelchair, tells everyone off, being true to her prize. Fed up and disgusted Isidingo actor Meshack Mavuso (Vusi) told her exactly where to get off!
From the moment couple Tina and Prosper Mkwaiwa arrived in wheelchair and crutches respectively, all cameras turned their attention on them. Media people pushed and shoved to try and get a perfect vulnerable picture of the wheelchair bound Tina. Prosper even made some way and stood on the side of the red carpet so the media can have their field day with her. Even TV camera people all wanted her to speak to them. After over forty minutes on the red carpet posing for pictures and filming in wheelchair, Tina decided to finally run away and enter The Venue in Melrose Arch where the fourth Feather Awards happened on Wednesday night.
Tina and Prosper were robbed a few weeks ago in their home and the robbers demanded they have sex at gun point, reported the Sunday papers. Prosper reportedly fought the gunmen and that’s when the gun went off inadvertently shooting him and his wife, and the gunmen fled the scene.
Little did everyone know that Tina’s dramatic and grand show-stopping entrance signalled she will walk away with Drama Queen of the Year Award beating Sophie Ndaba’s sudden hubby and sudden ex hubby Keith Harrington, Tshidi Tenyane and Sello Maake ka Ncube.
See all the winnersLater on in the night when Tina was announced winner in this dramatic category, she was ushered onto the wheelchair-unfriendly podium by a gay friend of hers and a lot of people helped with the wheelchair on the stairs to the podium.
Being true to her prize, Tina put on some weird fictional character as she didn’t mince her words in her acceptance speech. She told everyone how grateful she is and demanded everyone live their lives as best as they could, with undertones that suggested people should come out of the closet and be happily gay. The media continued to push to try and get a perfect shot of her in a vulnerable state but she kept on a brave face. She said so many things which made people raise their eyebrows.
She however at some point, nearly brought me down to tears as she thanked God saying: “I could be dead for all I know. It is by God’s grace that I am here and accepting this award. So please, live your lives and be happy and be the best you could be.” Perhaps the drama was not on what she said but on how she said it as it was like she was scolding someone.
Later on in the night in the VIP floor, I spot her wearing a high heel shoe on her uninjured leg and the other leg is with bandages and all that medical things. I ask her why she put on the high heel and she said not even a wheel chair can stop her from wearing her expensive shoes.
During the ceremony, Meshack and Zizo Beda went on stage to present an award. Meshack went on a lashing out spree. “I wonder why people on wheelchairs and crutches [due to injuries sustained during shooting] are not staying at home to nurse their bodies back to wellness,” said a shocked Meshack. He continued lashing out. “They knew camera people will be here so they wanted all the spotlight.”
And yes, Tina milked all the publicity for all its worth as the media continue to try and get her best vulnerable shot.
Perhaps on a lighter dramatic note, Somizi Mhlongo did his Madame Gigi drag and among many controversial things he said, the one that stood for me was this one: “All the single gay men here don’t have to sleep alone tonight. Look around you. There are handsome and straight men that are very vulnerable. Tonight could be your lucky night.” Kwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
More dirt and goss with zillions of pictures later on during the day.
