The plight of SA artists has reached the Highest Office in the land back in 2009 and since then, there was a musical pause on the issue. Then tune tune, the issue is in the spotlight again.

South African President Jacob Zuma met with South African artists back in 2009 to look into issues such as copyright, piracy, airtime on radio and television, social welfare issues and taxation.

A decision has been taken to split the two sectors for the report back, states a statement by The Presidency. Today, government gave feedback to musicians about the work done since 2009 to this day. A meeting with actors and other performing artists will take place next year.

"Task teams have been set-up for the various sectors of the music industry, performing artists, producers and everybody else who are going to look at their own sector to bring all the issues facing their sector together so that when we meet early next year at least we will have a comprehensive report with details from various sectors of this industry," said Minister in The Presidency responsible for Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane who is a musician himself.

So we reckon Minister Chaban will put in a good word for the “poor” artists since he has first-hand experience on their alleged plight.

The South African Government News Agency, formerly known as the BuaNews, reports that the relationship with various parts of the industry and how they are contributing to the industry is being looked at.

Eugene Mthethwa and Kid Sithole meet President Jacob Zuma at the Presidential’s Musical outing.

The Minister is quoted on the South African Government News Agency as saying: "Remember this is a very complex industry. It is an industry that we must look at from an economic point of view, as in the past our focus was only on the entertainment part," he said.

Chomee looks so beautiful, I can't say the same though about her music! It seems like this was a 'NON-Gospel musician' summit. Why didn't my mother, Dr RB Malope attend?
