“We are going to mobilise citizens who share this passion and they are in their millions, to be able to come behind this, and shape this platform into an effective machinery that can be able to fight the 2014 election and win.” Brave new words from Dr Mamphela Ramphele who entered the political fray with the launch of her political platform Agang. But can she succeed where other opposition parties have failed?
A disappointed DA and Western Cape Premier Helen Zille says she spent months negotiating with Ramphele. “…everyone knows that I offered to step back from the leadership of the DA and enabled her to stand for election as the leader of the DA. I thought we were very close to that agreement but unfortunately she wanted to go another route and now she has to make her space in that."
