The Marikana Commission of Inquiry resumes its hearings tomorrow morning (Wednesday, 14 November) with testimony by the South African Police Service (SAPS), followed by witnesses from AMCU and injured protestors. These proceedings can be followed live on the web.

The SABC will extend its coverage of the Commissions’ sittings in Rustenburg by providing a live stream on the SABC News website www.sabc.co.za/news, as well as on the SABC News YouTube channel.

This service will supplement daily coverage by SABC News on radio, TV and the web.

SABC Acting Group Executive: News, Jimi Matthews, says the Marikana Commission of Inquiry is of great public interest.

“As public broadcaster, we believe it is in the interest of its various audiences to have access to these hearings,” says Matthews. “As a broadcaster that aims to shape the way news is consumed in South Africa, we believe that online streaming offers a convenient alternative for those who have access to the internet on computers and mobile devices.”

Matthews adds: “The uptake of mobile media usage and advances in technology make it possible for viewers to access steaming content wherever they are, making the online platform an ideal medium for coverage of such an important event.”

By visiting www.sabc.co.za/news, visitors will be able to access key proceedings from the Commission. For details of the steaming, follow @SABCNewsOnline on Twitter, or visit www.facebook.com/SABCNewsOnline.

The SABC has been covering the events at Marikana and subsequent developments comprehensively and is committed to continue to offer the South African public only the best in news and current affairs.
