Metro Fm Awards Large 2013

SABC ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR 12TH METRO FM MUSIC AWARDS

The South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) public commercial radio station METRO FM’s music awards concept, has grown to be the second largest music awards show in the country. It has been well received and embraced by the industry, our audiences and the by the country at large.

Since their inception, the METRO FM MUSIC AWARDS (MMA’s) have been hosted by different municipalities, and the Mpumalanga Province. The MMAs are considered to be a key driver of the development of music industry by exposing new talent and working closely with independent and major recording labels, thus becoming one of the major signature events on the South African Music Calendar.

Not only are the METRO FM MUSIC AWARDS, a celebration of the artists but they have matured to become a key driver of local tourism for the hosting province or municipality. They have significantly contributed towards the economic growth of those hosting cities. In the past 11 years the MMA categories have evolved to reflect the growth of the local music industry at large.

For many years the awards have taken place towards the end of the year, therefore the station can appreciate the anticipation and eagerness from musicians, the music industry and METRO FM audiences at large.

However, this time around, the station is taking a different turn in that it is repositioning this property. This iconic brand that has emerged in the past 12 years is undergoing a major make-over which will undoubtedly change the South African Music Industry as a whole.

Therefore the MMA’s will not take place on the 24th November 2012 as per the initial plan. We are moving the Awards to February 2013 and this will remain our preferred month going forward to host the Awards.

The next awards will be bigger, better, with epic entertainment that the industry is yet to see!

The 12TH METRO FM MUSIC AWARDS will be officially launched towards the end of November 2012, amidst much camaraderie, speculation and excitement! At this launch, we will reveal the awards new sponsors, the host city and/or municipality, the exact date of the Awards Ceremony in February 2013 and last but not least our new venue.

The station will also be sharing a lot more with the media and with South Africa at large at this much anticipated launch.

Over and above the fact that we believe repositioning the Awards is a good business decision, we also recognize the fact that there are many other Awards Ceremonies that are held around the same period in the country.

These might not all be necessarily Music Awards, but they are still Award Ceremonies of National Interest. But most of all, our change of plan, allows many other musicians and record labels that have released their new offerings during the festive season, to be given an equal opportunity of show-casing their work by being part of the METRO FM MUSIC AWARDS in 2013.

We thank you for your support over the years and we look forward to an amazing production of the 12TH METRO FM MUSIC AWARDS in 2013!

*YAWN* How about saying "Sabc is broke and cannot afford to host such event" The best solution is to cancel the whole concept.

Like why make the host city announcement as if it's a secret when the whole industry knows it will be in Durban? Martin has been saying this since last year when he took the reigns....he's from Newcastle....so it goes without saying that he will be inclined to take them to his home province
