The story of the gang rape of a young mentally challenged girl caused a media frenzy and sent shock waves across the country. The question in many people’s minds was why did a group of young men perform such a crude act and film it?

For others, this pointed to parental negligence, how after all could a mother not have known the whereabouts of her mentally challenged daughter. Community members were quick to blame her.

What many did not know what that this was a typical story of a mother who battled for years to protect her child from being violated. This week 3rd Degree, looks at how the system failed this vulnerable child who desperately needed help.

we need the facts before we can help with any suggestions.

We do not need details beyond what is necessary... just enough facts to be able to formulate a good opinion of the situation.

With the information that is available:

You have a duty to open a charge with the police
You have a duty to obtain a restraining order against your husband that restricts or forbids him having unsupervised contact with your child.
You have a duty to enter you and the child into a counseling program
