Teaser ....The story of the gang rape of a young mentally challenged girl caused a media frenzy and sent shock waves across the country. The question in many people’s minds was why did a group of young men perform such a crude act and film it?
For others, this pointed to parental negligence, how after all could a mother not have known the whereabouts of her mentally challenged daughter. Community members were quick to blame her.
What many did not know what that this was a typical story of a mother who battled for years to protect her child from being violated. This week 3rd Degree, looks at how the system failed this vulnerable child who desperately needed help.
