M-Net closes Showtime's House of Lies

House of Lies

How far would you go to close a deal worth millions?

What lies would you be prepared to tell for it?

Where do you draw the line between who you really are and the things you're prepared to do to get ahead? Is there a line? Should there be? Once you cross it ... who are you?

These and more are some of the problems facing Marty Kaan, a top notch consultant at a major management consulting firm and the lead character in Showtime's edgy new series House Of Lies.

TVSA can confirm that M-Net has landed the rights to the show which recently scored a second season in the US. Someone in M-Net's corridors must have pulled a Marty to close the deal - it's a definite scoop because it's fresh, confronting, relevant and very funny.

Don Cheadle stars as Marty and delivers a stellar performance. It's super seeing him step out of his signature movie space and into TV. He leads the cast with pizzazz and pathos and will no doubt be nominated for an award for his performance.

Also praise'worthy is the visual comeback of Veronica Mars i.e. Kristen Bell who plays one of Marty's right hand liars Jeannie.

We've heard Kristen as the voice of Gossip Girl for years but it hasn't been the same as seeing her in a role and the series is perfect for her. She breaks out of her goody two-tweens mould completely - she's a ruthless corporate shark too and wears a dirty vocabulary.

Here's more about the scenario from the show's official description, followed by a trailer:

Marty Kaan is one of the top producers at Galweather & Stearn, the number two management consulting firm in the country. And it's a good thing, because his methods are beyond questionable.

Marty thinks nothing of taking his team out for lavish dinners and nights of strip club debauchery at the client's expense, lying shamelessly to a CEO's face to win an account, and sleeping with every beautiful woman who crosses his path at any given time, including his ex-wife.

Add to this a team that includes Clyde and Doug -  two young associates who spend as much time pulling elaborate pranks on each other as they do working - and Jeannie, a beautiful, ambitious blonde.

No premiere date has been confirmed yet - will keep you posted when it is.
