Coming up on 3rd degree this week:

Episode title: Hard To Swallow

Broadcast date: Tuesday, 13 December 2011.

Please note: the episode was originally scheduled to be on in December and was held over until January.

Teaser ...

3rd Degree investigates the scheme that hit hard at the sacred tenets of Islamic faith and makes every consumer question whether they can trust what they are eating.

Cell phone footage secretly filmed at a large Cape Town cold storage plant reveals shocking revelations. Pork hearts were being relabeled as veal and sheep hearts, boxed and sold as halaal. Shockwaves swept through the community. Muslim customers may well have unknowingly eaten pork.

Owner of the offending Orion Cold Storage plant, Patrick Gaertner, proclaimed his innocence blaming two former business associates Heinrich van Staden and Tobias Lombard. He claimed they had an axe to grind, had set up the fake videos to blackmail him for money. They were trying to destroy his business.

The two whistleblowers say Gaertner has been involved in unethical business practice for years. Though they were owed money, they also wanted to expose his wrong doings and clean up the red meat industry which has been plagued by such dodgy activities for a long time.

3rd Degree visits the infamous Orion plant and spoke to Patrick Gaertner himself. The show also got an exclusive interview with the two whistleblowers who tell all.

The show also takes on the Muslim Judicial Council to find out why Orion was ever given halaal certification to begin with.

3rd Degree is on e.tv and e.News on Tuesdays at 21h30.

It looks like the MJC put pressure on ETV and ETV sadly succumbed to them. Why does Third Degree not investigate the complete halal certificate scam? ETV should look at how much money the halal certificate issuers make from producers and what is being done with the millions. Certainly the MJC has never ever produced a balanced sheet to the community which they purport to represent. Do they also pay tax on this income? Who gets income from the millions? Please, please Debra, this is a topic waiting to explode. It will make for riveting journalism. I cant wait for Debra to expose what is really going on.
