Coming up on Carte Blanche this Sunday (23 October 2011)

No Justice for Kids

In a country where sex crimes are rife, one would hope that the justice system would be doing everything possible to swiftly bring perpetrators to trial - particularly in cases involving minors.

But, in Nelspruit, child victims of horrific abuse are subjected to seemingly endless delays and denied even their basic rights. Carte Blanche finds out what’s going on.

Producer: Backyard Productions
Presenter: Derek Watts & Devi Sankaree Govender

Pirates of Somalia II

It’s been a year since the disappearance of Durban couple Debbie Calitz and Bruno Pelizzari off the Somali coast. They were deck hands on a yacht when they were kidnapped by pirates last October and vanished without a trace.

They’ve since made contact with their families through a pirate negotiator called Ali. But ransom demands remain more than ordinary folk can afford. Carte Blanche speaks to the pirates themselves.

Producer: Nguni Productions
Presenter: Chantal Rutter

Drug Drug

Kicking a heroin habit is one of the hardest things to do. So imagine if medication was available to make it significantly easier to drop this dangerous habit... Well, there is - and it’s been around since the '60s. But this so-called miracle drug can’t be patented, so there’s little awareness of its existence. Carte Blanche put some addicts to the test.

Producer: Carol Albertyn Christie
Presenter: Devi Sankaree Govender
Journalists: Amalia Christoforou & Leila Dougan

KK, the Sushi King

He’s flashy, funny and is more famous for eating sushi off models' bellies than for his dubious mining deals. Carte Blanche finds out what’s so appealing about Kenny Kunene’s extravagant ways.

Producer: Joy Summers
Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
Journalist: Susan Comrie & Tshediso Sesioana

Carte Blanche is on M-Net and M-Net HD on Sundays at 19h00.
