2010 MAMAs, The Latest

Africa's music award season is in full swing with the recent Channel O Music Video Music Awards and the imminent Metro FM Music Awards (MMAs). Coming soon too: the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs).

The nominees were announced on Saturday, 30 October and last night (Thursday, 11 November) MTV hosted a champagne party featuring the nominees in the build-up to the awards.

Now in their third year, the Awards take place in Lagos, Naija this year, at the Eko Expo Hall on Saturday, 11 December 2010.

As with the MMAs on SABC1, they won't be broadcast live on DStv unfortunately. It's an even more ridiculous situation to the MMAs considering that the MAMAs are a dedicated TV event: without TV they wouldn't exist and yet viewers can't see them live. It makes no sense at all.

Instead, they'll be broadcast in a delayed screening on MTV and MTV Base from 18 December 2010. We'll keep you posted when dates and times are confirmed.

MAMAs Legend: a legend award given for outstanding contribution. The winner of this category is chosen by MTV and will be announced before the show on 11 December.

MTV also chooses the winner of the Best Video category.

The rest of the category winners are chosen by public votes, online and via SMS.
