Every, or rather most, women worry about the age they will conceive a child or start a family – the perfect age, companion and situation is always in their minds.
As the years go by, in their teens – some don’t have the time to think about these and find themselves with child, in the 20s most are partying up a storm and really give the thoughts 15% of their time but as soon as the perfect companion comes along - boom! Baby!
In the 30s they worry about being too old to conceive but have so much going for them they put the child thoughts 25% of their time, in the late 30s and early 40s some give up on the child thoughts, some make alternative options – adopt, inseminate, surrogate mothers – the options are endless.
Kassie Larson(Jennifer Aniston) is in her 40s, beautiful, successful and relationshipless meaning ZERO prospects at the child and family she dreams of. Her best friend Wally Mars (Jason Bateman) is a neurotic financial advisor who is secretly in love with her. On one of their usual evening out, Kassie drops the bomb that she is taking matters into her own hands; she wants to have a child and is looking for a donor.
As she searches for a perfect donor – great looks, healthy, athletic, positive, educated and successful – Wally is in despair. Why is he not good enough to father Kassie’s child and why doesn’t Kassie see that he is THE ONE? On the night Kassie celebrates at her “getting pregnant party” and introduce the donor to her friends and family. Wally gets really drunk and doesn’t remember anything about the evening.
7 years later, Kassie returns to New York with her son Sebastian (Thomas Robinson) and Wally is forced to remember what happened on the “getting pregnant party” night. Will Kassie be happy with his memories, will she see what he is seeing in her son, does anyone else know what happened that night and what will happen to their relationship if he tells her?
The movie has very talented and “save the movie” supporting roles in the friends of the main troubled characters. Leonard (Jeff Goldblum) is Wally’s business partner who helps him through his challenges with Kassie. Debbie (Juliette Lewis) has a love-hate relationship with Wally – they seem to be the perfect match for each other.
This movie deals with friendships that get tested when one is IN LOVE with the other but are not the “perfect match”. I just feel that Jennifer Aniston is typecasting herself in these sad roles of a single woman looking for happiness – this is one notch better than The bounty hunter though. A huge notch.
The movie starts showing at Nu-Metro theaters on the 15 October 2010.
