Any child of the 80s that knew a neighbor with a TV was captivated or even slightly obsessed with the series called The A-Team with John “Hannibal” Smith (George Peppard), B.A Barcus (Mr T),” Howling Mad” Murdock (Dwight Schultz) and Templeton “Faceman” Peck (Dick Benedict) as Vietnam war veterans.
They mesmerized their fans as they went about sorting tricky situations for their clients with humour, whilst they blew up a couple of things – there was not really that much violence in their “plan” as they helped.
Their motto “A plan always comes together” with the series tagline that said “Heroes for hire” always displayed that with the right kind of resources, a good plan and a willingness to help even if you use unconventional methods, you can achieve success. The characters were not cuddly lovey with each other but worked together to resolve whatever problem was at hand.
Their characters got on each other’s nerves as Face(faceman) was always entangled in a woman’s legs at the most inopportune times. Murdock always insisted on making everything a joke, even if the timing chosen for his quips would cost them and cause them harm. Hannibal as the general of the team keeps the plans flowing, and ensures everything goes according to plan, whilst trying to keep Murdock from being murdered by B.A. and Face.
Anyway, the remake of this fabulous series stars Liam Neeson (Hannibal), Bradley Cooper (Face), Quinton Jackson (B.A) and Sharlto Copley (Murdock). It doesn’t rise to the occasion but defs takes us (children of the 80’s) back to our childhood memories of trying to re-enacting Murdock crazy jokes and B.A. being the ”it” man with a killer Mohawk.
The special effects are obviously very evolved from the 80s but there is a bit of too much violence compared to that time. Well, the times have changed and violence seems to be a way movies require a lot of these days.
The current A-team are now Iraqi war veterans and find themselves in a difficult situation after a special operation; they are now convicted for a crime they did not commit and have to clear their names. The plans that they get together to ensure they get their badges and titles back is the center of this movie.
I will give this movie 3 segs stars simply because I was hopelessly disappointed they did not use the theme song from the original series.
The movie starts showing at Nu-Metro theaters on the 20th August 2010.
