AI Top 14: Rants and Raves

Please note: if you're watching American Idol  9 on M-Net Series, this includes spoilers for Saturday's Results Show (on 20 March) so you may wish to return once the episode's been on. xoxo

While I wanted Tim Urban to be whacked more than anything this week I suspected that it wouldn't happen - that terrible Jonas brothers hair obviously appeals to 'tween-type voters.

Then, when he performed that religious song I knew it would definitely save him. It was a very low blow I thought - I just don't 'do' any situation where someone uses religion or a belief system to go further in a reality show, which is exactly what I reckon he's up to.

The result: Todrick Hall got undeservingly auff'd and didn't make the Top 12. I agree with the judges that he's more suited to being a Broadway performer but it doesn't change the fact that he rocked the Queen and owned those Mercury notes - I don't see anyone else in the competition managing to do what he did.

Also, he's such an entertainer with the promise of more, in contrast to Hair Boy who just stands there in a boring fringe of luck.

The same rubbish situation happened with Lilly Scott. She was much better in the audition rounds than she has been recently but still, to be out of the show in favour of Katie Stevens is as WTF?? as Lilly thought it was when she heard the news.

Ha - ... thinking about it now, I suppose the expression on her face could have made it worth losing her - 'spesh seeings as there's no ways Katie has a chance of winning.

As for Alex Lambert leaving too - unfortunately for him he really had waaaay too much to do to break through to the other side

Out of everyone he had the unique'st voice I thought - as Kara said, you can really hear his recordings - but he had so far to go when it comes to conquering the fear, he wouldn't have achieved it by the end of the season, so it was the right time for him.

Same thing with Katelyn Epperley, who suddenly turned invisible and withdrew. It obviously had to do with Simon telling her that she came across as corny in her piano-playing last week. I didn't agree with him about that at all - just as I don't agree about Andrew Garcia seeming 'desperate'.

Please note (and believe me): this is not because I groove on him and want to see him go far i.e. my mind isn't clouded for any tattoo-perve reason (although now I mention it, that one on his neck looks very tempting to nibble).

I didn't think he was the best out of everyone this week but I did think that his Christina Aguilera rocked. He should have made it build more so that got more wild and hard-core as it went on, but other than that, I thought it was cool.

Best out of the girls

Crystal Bowersox again. I blubbed. It had to do with seeing a girl be so free and kick such butt. She was wonderful l I thought. Her singing Tracy Chapman added to it all too.

Best of out everyone

Big Mike. Up until now he's been much too concerned with his muscles and been too showy about them and his size - and his story too. I've been feeling that all the surrounding stuff with him has been more important to him than his actual singing - but this week, for the first time, he let all that go, was superbo and just Was.

PS: An alert! the Finale is going to be broadcast live on M-Net, as it's always been on M-Net Series. Will keep you posted on the final timing.

After thursday results, I think I'm done with watching idols. It's going to bore I know for sure, all those remaining guys who always sit on chairs...and those girls who made me feel sleepy last week (well except the extra ordinary mlungu rasta gal Crystal) ...yawn

I think America got it so wrong, Todd brought some lively feeling to the show  with his broadway performances... The funny thing is people are voting for people whom they wont even buy their records after they win. But it happens everywhere...(what happend to Anke Pietrangeli & Karin Kortje?)

Now I'm rooting for Crystal, Big Mike, Lee & Siobhan

It's stretching it a bit to call Hallelujah a religious song. The original Cohen version is practically a dirge. Ignoring the actual hallelujah bit, the whole thing's about disillusionment more than anything else. The hallelujah parts are more ironic than anything else, I'd say.

Of course, I'm pretty sure the reality show types who cover it either miss the nuances of the song or don't have the skills to interpret it properly. Haven't seen Timmy Boy's crack at it yet but somehow I'm guessing I'm not going to be impressed.

Him and Big Mike were the only ones who brought life to that show that day! those other boys are boring with their guitars!! Nxa

I guess it wouldn't be reality without upsets
