When the doorbell rings at an ungodly hour of 4:45 in the morning, you can only think – this is bad! Who is up at that time knocking on people’s doors with great news? Anywho, Norma (Cameron Diaz) and Arthur Lewis (James Marsden) have this unfortunate experience.
As they eventually get out of bed and get to the trinnging doorbell, there is no-one there but a mysterious looking small wooden box with a note saying “Mr. Steward will come see you at 5 p.m.” So, what do you do? Do you eagerly await Mr. Arlington Steward (Frank Langella) in the hope that he has a wrong address and you can give him back his box or do you throw the box in the bin and forget about it?
The Lewis’ go about their day as normal as possible, and Norma gets home early enough to meet Mr Steward. He has an offer – the box is a killing machine and if the Lewis decide to press the button on the box, someone they don’t know will die immediately and they will be rewarded with a million dollars in cash… but for them giving Mr Steward the chance to make the offer they get a brand new crisp $100 and they have exactly a day to think about the offer and decide what to do. Tjo!

What will the Lewis’ do? Now that’s where the thrill in the movie comes. It was quite an interesting movie to watch – made me wonder what would push someone to do what Mr. Steward is doing. What the Lewis’ life needs that he saw and made the offer to them and how if this was real life – who would make what choice given the options?
I loved seeing Cameron Diaz in a different role to her normal goofy – gal next door act which she has perfected. The movie is classified thriller, sci-fi and drama. I will give this movie a 4/5 stars for thrill and an exciting storyline.
The movie is set to start showing at
Ster-Kinekor on the
12th March 2010.
