On 3rd Degree this Tuesday:

Episode Title: Targeted and Terrorised in Townships
Broadcast date: 2 February 2010

Teaser ...

Lesbians are targeted and terrorised in townships across the country. Some young men believe lesbians should be raped to correct their homosexuality.

Others beat and kick them, accusing them of “stealing their girlfriends”.

3rd Degree tells the harrowing stories of several women on the east rand, whose lives have been ripped apart by intolerant and violent thugs.

But it’s not only township youths who perpetuate this violence. 3rd Degree reveals how some members of the SAPS are complicit in the hatred and intolerance.

Homophobia is rampant and many men are vocal about their hate for lesbians. One man told us, “These gay things should be killed.”

3rd Degree asks: Are gay and lesbian rights worth the paper they’re written on?

3rd Degree is on e.tv at 21h30.

am a lesbian and it saddens me to think that there are people out there that feel we should be treared as animals. I ask myself why are we being treated like this in my view we as lesbians have more love , respect, and consideration for our partners so to all men who believe we should be killed have you really sit down and ask yourselfs what the hell is wrong with you knowing that we ladiez take real care to our lesbian partners

I was so shocked by the police attitude towards those women.  They should be taken to some sort of course where they are taught how to handle these matters.  Those guys who were saying that they should be raped are so ignorant and insensitive, i fail to understand why the guys who raped Nandi are still roaming the streets.

Let them be man, there is no one who can wake up in the morning and say I want to be Lesbian or Gay. It comes naturally. There is this judge who married and had children but was never happy about his life until he decided to divorce his wife and openly confessed to his sexuality. Personally I love lesbian and gays, they are most friendly people I have ever met.

watching that izolo just made me so angry...i did not think there was still people who are that ignorant and as for the police...they must be ashamed of themselves sies

Watching the show last night I was also disgusted esp by the ignorance and attitude of those boys. Then I thought something: A camera can exacerbate situations. It's like when people are striking, as soon as they see a camera they go wild. It's a natural thing that humans feel the need to perform when they in front of a camera. Of course what those boys were saying could be what they actually feel but I couldnt help but think some of their comments were exaggerated just because the camera was there. The vulgar guy who looked like he would steal something from you was a bit too animated

Im not saying this to trivialise the problem in townships for homosexuals because it's a real issue that needs to be addresses but I just felt I'd put this across

If homosexuals want to celebrate their commitment to one another and establish legal expecations between one another, there is excellent venues call HELL. To me is like saying, "I want to be a snowman in Jupiter.

I don't think any decent woman would associate with those thugs. That is why they resort to raping innocent women claiming to "cure" them.

Holiday it always amazes me how ignorant bigot like you come up with this frivolous and baseless lines

The fact that human beings are different, in all forms except for identical twins who themselves arent even 100% the same, makes that statement (however catchy it might be) juvenile and unintelligent. How can you compare an absolute matter to a matter that has variations? the law of physical makes that impossible

You can not compare anything absolute to humans. That is just common sense. Humans vary in many ways where as a snow is a snow. A human being can exist on earth and be different because this is where he's meant to be and if we were all meant to be the same ie like the same things, look the same etc then the will to differentiate would not exist.

You probably dont like any man you meet if you are a woman. Why do you think you not attracted to all men but a specific kind. It's hypocritical to even suggest that any feelings that somebody-else has that doesnt conform to your idea of what life should be is unnatural for this world (whether you were saying that snow thing figurative or not). We are different by virtue of being human. Instead of wasting time coming up with this frivolous statement, comparing people to snow, you should ask whoever you pray to to give you the strength to learn to embrace diversity and love for your fellow humanbeings because you arent perfect in everybody's eyes either.

Seriously though, you are smart to have come up with that catchy line but that snow statement insults yr intelligence.

Holiday. Im not a homo, Im Phil... so in your "world" you only have to be a homo to tell people who prejudice against homosexuals that they are wrong?

There is a song by ASA called Jailer you should listen to it. Esp this part

If u walking in a market place,
Dont throw stones
Cos if you do u just might hit one of your own

Life is not abt yr policies
All the time
so u better rearrange your philosophies
And be good to you fellow man

What I find so ironic about a lot of these gay/lesbian bashers is people says its unAfrican and a Western thing and then go ahead and quote the Bible. Hello... the Bible wasn't written in Africa either.

eish when a lady with 2 kids turn to be a lesbian, how can we take her serious, how r we suppose to accept her as a lesbian when she's actually a mother of her children. its so confusing,

thats why some people/Thugs still thing they confused and need to be raped  to help them see that they actually women not lesbians, which is totally! absolutely WRONG!

i salute Generations and Society for helping some of us to understand Lesbians and Gays.

Holiday:

Funny how narrow minded people can be. The very bible people quote does make reference to judging people.

Again I say, lets not do things (quote the bible) when it's convenient for us. Let us quote it in it's entirety.

You may say God created a man to be with woman and I may say the bible says we should not judge.

Who is  right?

Lets stop talking about issues on an emotional level and start debating on a more objective and substantial level

I agree with you blaq- comparing the absolute to humans is a far fetched example that has no basis for an objective debate
