The Year of Opportunists galore

2010 is just another year. Sure enough, South Africa is the proud host of the most prestigious soccer competition but really now, is the fuss all that neccessary?
See, I'm the perky and optimistic type, infact sickeningly so. I realise the impact the world cup will have and has had in terms of international investors in these tough economic times. In no way am I trying to demean this momentous event but I really do feel it has disillussioned the common few by promising them dreams of grandeur.
They have been loafing about since the 2003 announcement that SA was the proud host but only now do they feel the urge to capitalise, worse yet, expecting that the magic of 2010 will automatically rub off. I swear on my cute buns that every one I meet and have conversation with is building a pretty cotton candy castle in the sky. Throwing words like economic developement and portfolio mangement out of their pearly whites and into their righteous fantacies. I've even turn a light shade of blue because the BS is ailing my health. Can a girl sit bown for a F***en coffee without being reminded of the the useless commotion being created but run-down has-beens in this year of boundless prospects.

Well we're all allowed to dream and if yours is becoming a reality then your one of the few not making 'white noise'. You've got the right to advance your life and improve your quality of life. But just be realistic of what in fact can be achieved.

For instance; my boyfriend asked for a break, know what I said? Shut up, sit down and have a kitkat!

well I had to read it again, btu now I DO understand your annoyance...(i hope thats all it is, NOt frustration, coz you've just menitoned what an sickeningly optimistic person you are..so it cant be frustrating to listen to optimists..)..

Yes some people have taken into the 2010 thingy with too much vigour and hope, but thats OK as long as they dont give up after 2010 when they realise that there were too many hopefulls  and  and that it was too much ado over nothing.....hopefully they wil make a difference in the country by creating an enteprenerial environment particulary for  blacks  who have been igorant and unaware of oportunities in business...so those who will be a success this year should serve as examples , and those who wont be successfull, should see this as a test of their potential to run businesees so all in all I dont think the abundance of positive thinking re"2010 is such a terrible thing.....

BTW your boyfriend (the one you're holding hostage with a kit-kat... has probably been promised a huge 2010 tender deal this year, so he's prolly thinkin about the loot and not sharing it with you...LOL  jus a thought

Lol at kitkat.

hehehe, I hear you about the window of opportunity some people keep talking about development etc.

If you did nothing while you had the chance you surely wont get anything in 2010. all you have to do is buy tickets and enjoy it.

well mina they have always asked me la why I never talked about the world cup and dont seen all that happy that my country is the first country in Africa to host the World cup.

I am thrilled for S.A and all the possibilities that this huge even might have on it. But i haven’t been a soccer fan for a while now, the last time i think i enjoyed soccer was when that white couch oooh i forgot his name was couching Bafana n every time they won he will fly like the aeroplane that was cool, kusadlala oPhilemon, Eric tinkler, neil tover (sp), Doc Khumalo. There were songs about our National team and players.

But for December holiday i went home and i must say i luved the excitement back home, maybe it cause i dont get to hear about the world cup all the time . Yazi my cuzin when I left wathi hhawu usuyahamba ingakafiki I 2010 athi phela 2010 I world cup
But instead of hearing about the Earthquake in Haiti, poverty situation in Ethiopia, Crime in Nairobi now termed Nairobbery , war in Congo and Natural disasters in most part of Africa that BBC news is always happy to report about. I would rather have my cup of coffee discussing world cup for once

The embassy promised to provide place for us to come watch the games and support our National team together, and come June I will be rocking the Bafana Jesrsey with my Vuvuzela supporting my team now I need to know the players. I am looking forward to the games and I think I am failing in like with the game again

@ nice, I'm thrilled, better yet estatic about the Soccer world cup being held in RSA, but I have furious with the scores of people who have been "kicking" it for the last 5 years only to now irritate the rest of us with their illusive dream. I use the word illusive to emphasis  that not can be achieved in this one year, it takes planning..............PLANNING!
