Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson transferred to the special unit of the LAPD to deal with high-profile and highly sensitive murders.
Her Southern charm doesn't win her many fans with her team initially, as they struggle to understand where she has come from and how she managed to step ahead of them in the LAPD.
But her special gift soon makes them eat their words when they see first hand the confessions and testimonies she manages to extract from suspects, aiding to pinpoint the guilty when she catches them in their own lies.
Her bewilderment with LA and the way it operates provides another aspect to the show, as she struggles to move out of her hotel, give up her sweet tooth and get her life going in the City of Angels.
