Prayer

At a very young age each individual was taught to pray. At crèche we all said grace before we ate; in primary school we taught the Lord’s Prayer. But it is amazing that when we grow we pray less each day.

Now ladies and gentlemen…..what is prayer?
To me this is how I communicate with God, my Abba Father.

Take this scenario: any woman in love wants her boyfriend to call her; send her smses and always keep in touch with her. In this way he makes her feel secured and loved and you’d always hear women saying that they want a man who will give them undivided attention.

This must also apply to our relationship with God. Because after all how can you relate to someone you never communicate with?
Now when we pray we tell God we love Him; we appreciate all that He is doing and all that He has done in our lives. We express our love for Him; and yes it is absolutely vital to everyone not only to born again Christians

I like to say that when your alarm goes off in the morning and you switch it off…………guess what? You are alive. Do you know what that means? It means that God is trusting you with His precious breath. A life; to fulfil your purpose here on earth. So thank Him. Even if you just say “God; this is a new day. Thank you for trusting me with your precious breath. May all I do today give glory to you. Amen.”

This is short but I think it is the same as receiving an sms form a lover with only three magic words we all love to hear “I love you”
Do not reject God; when you don’t pray it is the same as when you are in a relationship with someone who never gets in touch with you.

Now I believe we all know the Lord’s Prayer (Mat 6 v 9-13). This prayer is the best. It says it all in less 1 minute. Praying does not mean shouting for 15 minutes. A person who shouts and moves around for20 minutes or so is not a better prayer than the one who sits down saying only a few words from their hear. Well; at least this is my take on it. I believe it is better when the words are straight from the heart than blubbering.

In the case of a born again, there is what is called praying in the spirit, also known as tongues. And no there are no classes for this type of prayer. This is not earthy language.
To be able to do this:
• You must accept Jesus as your personal survivor
• Grow spiritually (by fellowshipping and eating the word)
• Be spirit filled
• Get holy spirit baptismal(others call it holy ghost baptismal)

Why do born again Christians pray in tongues
• To be more connected to God (cause God understand it)
• To confuse the devil
• The word of God states that we are not fighting with the physical but with rulers; authorities and against powers of the dark and against spiritual evil forces. (Eph 6 v 12)

One may ask this question: Why must we pray?
• The bible says we must pray without ceasing (1 Thes 5v 16- 18)
• Sounds impossible? Phil 4v 13 says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
• Why? Because you wont be anxious about anything since you take everything to God in prayer and always giving thanks
• The reward? Shalom! God’s peace; peace that surpass human understanding; peace when indebted; peace in sickness; peace when work frustrate you; peace after making wrong decisions and always wanting to kick yourself for it; peace all the time
• Phil 4 v 6-8

Is prayer really that important? Yes. Jesus also said “pray so that you may not fall into temptation”

Conditions for prayer
• Abide in Christ
• Pray according to God’s will. Always say in your prayer “God let your will be done”.
• Believe that God answers prayers
• Schedule prayer time (what is bound on earth is also bound in heaven so try your best to stick to it)
• Pray in the spirit if you can
• Get yourself a prayer partner (sedikwa ke ntswa pedi ga se thata—meaning it is better if you are two than when you do it alone)

Luke 1 v 37 says God can do anything. Remember anything include everything which includes all things, so make your request known to Him through prayer.

Other prayers from the bible
Ps 23
Ps 24
Ps 121
Ps 118

Pray all time and pray for any reason….after all the word of God says make your request known to God through prayer

Praying sets me free. I pray even if I'm happy. I believe in prayes so much.

<<Please share your personal experience....>>
on my grandmom's last days. she was very ill in Inkosi Albet Luthuli Hospital.
My mother, uncle, 2 cousins and I were in ICU visiting her. I was silent praying and i just stood up and pray out loud they joined, we prayed begging God to help my grandmom get better if he still want her to be with us but if he came to fetch her home he must do that and set her free from pains, the moment we said AMEN she stoped breathing. Nurses and Doctors came in and chased us out. after few minuts they came out and told us, she passed. Prayers do work if u believe in them. God is good.

25 Mar 2009 12:11

In your own word; what is prayer? – It is the private conversation that you have with God.
How do you pray?-I always invite his presence, thank him for all his done and about to do, tell him about my plans, ask them to help me (given that’s what he intended for me), and ask for the things I want, I then again thank him, for I know his will be done, my prayers will be answered, not by my will, but by his.
Does God answer prayers? Please share your personal experience- He does, sometimes he delivers before you even ask. When I lost my cousin last yr, I neva thot the day would come where I would accept it and feel better. Through constant prayer to him, I have accepted that my cousin is with him, and I feel better. I know that, his death was for a reason, and God’s work is in amazing ways.
Do you know a silent prayer? Do you believe in one
?- This one works best for me, I would just do one at work, and after that feel a whole lot better.
Does prayer work?- Nothing else compares, not even a call from my mother

Cody
25 Mar 2009 12:14

I have also learned that there are things that can hinder our prayers e.g

UNFORGIVING SPIRIT

(Mk. 11:25) “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

(Eph. 4:31-32) “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger, brawling, and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Another good example is the story of Joseph and his brothers.

WRONG MARITAL RELATIONS WILL HINDER PRAYER
(1 Peter 3:7) “Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.”

i am not sure if the kipiting fall under this as well

In your own word; what is prayer?
Prayer for me is speaking to my Daddy in heave.
How do you pray?
I talk to God as if i see Him I use normal language no shouting and trying to impress cz He knows me better than I know myself. Sometimes I just pray in the spirit esp when I don't know what to say.
Does God answer prayers? Please share your personal experience
Yes He does but sometimes I feel like He doesn't and I know those are the times when it is not His will for me to have whatever I'm asking for and from experience I've learned that He always has something better.
Do you know a silent prayer?
Yes!
 Do you believe in one?
I do it everytime I can't pray out loud.

25 Mar 2009 12:29

Sorry Blue..I know you said we should KISS but  I want to give this example of prayer that i like by Bishop Jenkins: (im relating it to the 1st few lines of your article)

When severe drought hit a small farming community in the Midwest, a local church called a prayer meeting and everybody showed up. Crisis has a way of getting our attention! As the pastor stood before his packed church he noticed an 11-year-old girl sitting in the front row, beaming with excitement. Lying next to her was her bright red umbrella poised for use. The beauty and innocence of this sight made him smile as he compared the faith of this child with that of the rest of the people in the room. You see, the rest of them had just come to pray for rain - she had come to see God answer!

One thing that occurs in most cases - we just pray coz we 'have to' .INSTEAD of expecting the answer.

So bazalwane :  when you pray for rain, bring your "red umbrella!"

Sorry again Bluerose

Well praise the lord for this Especially Blueroze,,,,,,,,,,,,, it really lifted my spirit we cud with article like this Amen

Most pple have ansa the Questions and i agree

I do believe in prayer cos by Prayer our sins are forgiven , by prayer my needs are met,   by prayer i became healed, by prayer i am protected and guided i can mention all the thing prayer does but wats important is that when you pray believe  and it shall be

Prayer is the only source we use to talked to Abba Father so it is impotant to kneel before the lord and just talk He is always waitin and ready for you anytime

In your own word; what is prayer? A communication between me and God (even tho we as people tend to make it an 'instruction' to God, talking to him when we need something...which is quite sad)
How do you pray: I talk to him like I'm talking to my biological father because I know he is listening....by means of fasting too.
Does God answer prayers: Definitely, especially thru fasting, I have amazing testimonies.....
Do you know a silent prayer: I am one in a way, I talk to God in my heart often...like he is my friend...bcos he is.

Thank God my reply box is visible today.

what is prayer? It is a way to communicate with my Creator and let him know all my excitement, cares , sorrows and troubles.

How do you pray? I have this routine which I was introduced to by a friend and I shorten it to ACTS( Adoration and praises, Confession of all my wrongdoings, Thanksgiving and Send my Supplications)

Does God answer prayers? Please share your personal experience :  First it was belz asking us to be short and you said that we must KISS today, so I will only say God ALWAYS answers prayers. Even NO is in an answer

Do you know a silent prayer? Do you believe in one? I mostly pray in silence, and I am learning how to verbalise my prayers. I must say it is much easier to pray in silence. There's this peace that I get when I pray silently, I cant explain it but I always feel it after praying.

nna i cant speak in tounges does it mean if you can speak in tounges you are not "there" yet?

Cody, not really. We all have different spiritual gifts and if speaking in tongues it is not what God intended for you..........I dont think there is anything you can do about it. But if you have that gift, stay closer to him to make sure that you dont lose it. I think it is very precious!!

Cody
25 Mar 2009 14:39

Errr....with the tongues thingie,

okay this is what this other sister said to me about tongues,it means that if you cant speak in tongues a lot of your battles wont be won because the devil will know what you are saying therefore he will be able block whatever blessings that should come your way so basically if you are a christian you should pray in tongues so that you can see results quicker.

What if cant? do you have to force yourself to speak in tongues? doesnt that come naturally kanti? can you say to a person lets pray  in tongues? mina i dont want to pretend mos

SOMEBODY PLEASE CLARIFY.

all a person needs to know is that nothing can stand in the way of the will of God.

What if cant? you pray the way you always do

do you have to force yourself to speak in tongues? no, it is not forceable

doesnt that come naturally kanti? once you have received holy ghost baptismal, you will flow like that

can you say to a person lets pray in tongues?yes you can, and if they can they will

Cody my loving, the bible says:

God give everyone different spiritual gifts, 1 Cor 12:4-6 "There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all."
Spiritual gifts are given to us to serve God and each other so we can work together in unity. If you continue reading the same chapter you'll find out that  verse 7 says "But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all

Though spiritual gifts are different but they are useful and all should glorify God in unity as it is said in Rom 12:4-5  "For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we being many are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another."

Since everyone is different , God give different spiritual gifts to different people but we are all united in Him and we are given those gifts to Glorify Him.  if you continue reading 1 Cor. 12:8-11 you'll see that it says  "for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

Speaking in tongues is a gift.

Matthew 18:19-20 says

"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in Heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there I am with them."

In those two verses you'll realise that there are promises given to us for agreeing on something in our prayer, the first promise is authority and power in prayer that when we pray and when we pray together, it is  effective, it can change things and in the second verse, there is a  promises of God's presence with us.

so It does help to have those prayer points and pray with others concerning them.

Cody do not believe everything people say, especially these sisters who want to potray themselve as powerful sisters. i have nothing aginst them, i just thin kwe should make it our own reponsibility to study the word of God.

by so doing we will be able to make right choice.
and also it will help that when you pray you ask for the spirit of discernment (go tlhotlhomisa mewa) so that you can see the spirit behind a person talking to you.

in fact every christian must pray for God to impart (for lack of a better word) spirit of discernment

Its not that im complaining but hai niyarocka guys...

And 2 ansa ur question
Do you know a silent prayer?
- I do silent prayer a lot, anytime & anywhere (even if im in the toilet). And i love it!

Do you believe in one?

Yes, but sometimes God breaks our spirit to save our soul. He allows pain so we can be stronger & humble. God allows illness so we can take better care of ourselves. He breaks our heart to make us whole. And lastly he takes everything away from us so we can learn the value of everything he gave us.

I am so tired yhazi.....i cant wait for 04:30

26 Mar 2009 09:44

Okay shall we start form the beginning, nna I have a lot of things that need to be clarified so I can have an understanding.

- Is it on gross or net, because there is a big, I mean BIG hole, between my gross and net.
-Does all ot the 10% have to go to church, or can i split it between church, and charities. I know my church mixes up the funds but it makes me feel so much better when I give to someone that I feel really needed it and can see the immediate effect and it makes me appreciate what I did more.

Guidance people please, I dont want to go to hell for not paying my tithe.

belz
26 Mar 2009 09:50

I heard that its gross nice, and you are right, there is a very biggggg hole. i dotn trust what the church does with money, vele where does this tithe money go, id rather give my money to people who need iot and will use it rahter than giving it to the "church" i mean, i dont even know where it goes.

@nice
Is it on gross or net, because there is a big, I mean BIG hole, between my gross and net.

It is your gross my love Not net

-Does all ot the 10% have to go to church, or can i split it between church, and charities.

It is your Choice

Deut 26:12 says " When you have finished setting aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, you shall give it to the Levite, the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied"

Levites there referes to people who work for the ministry

@belz vele where does this tithe money go
If you read Numbers 18: 21 - 29   and Deuteronomy  26:9-12 you'll realise that  tithe  must be used to
1. Supporting the work of God
2. Providing for his laborers (the Levites) and 3. To support the alien (stranger, homeless or disadvantaged) the fatherless and widow

Lela
26 Mar 2009 10:34

Belz it goes towards paying the bills, phela everything you see at church is payed for(from the band to electricity to rent in some churches), and you benefit from it so why not contribute cz the church has no sponsor. What i love about Grace Bible Church where the issue of gross and net is concerned they say it is between you and God,now I love that than saying gross when God didn't say anything about gross.

Hi all

I just wanna know how exactly do you know if you are praying in tongues or not.

Lela
26 Mar 2009 11:47

I would tell them the Gross BA but practically speaking what comes to my hand is most of the time way less than the gross so the reason why I love the idea of between you and God is that God is not a selfish God that he will gunpoint people to give Him 10% of what they do not have,to me better that than not tithing at all. Personally when I was still faithfull in tithing I did so from the gross. My Pastor when he was teaching on tithes he made me understand why we have to do it from gross he said the 10% protects the 90% so that is why you will not lack even after you gave the 10% but kunzima yho! Also on what Belz said about rather giving the money to another worthy cause another Pastor once said you can't eat kwaKFC eNquthu uthi hayke sendizobhatala kuKentucky wase Jo'burg.

There lies your answer then Lela .. we give God the tenth of what we have been blessed with ... not the tenth after SARS robbery.

There are different kinds of offerings.... Free will(you give what is in your heart) and then tithe... You give back what belongs to God which is the tenth of what He has enthrusted you with, we can justify it all we want but that's what He said in the Bible.

Lela
26 Mar 2009 12:15

not the tenth after SARS robbery. tl tl tl
I know about the justification part and i'm probably guilty of it but ke churches teach different things and I believe there is no right or wrong cz they all quote the bible when doing so. Some say firstfruits is your whole salary for the month of Jan, some say they tithe the whole salary evry tenth month. Hence I like the idea of it is between you and God cz the one time we had this discussion with other brethren it came down to whatever your conviction is as long as it is done from a clean heart. Mna I wouldn't be able to tithe from nett cz my conviction is about gross so if I do so from nett I will feel guity and have to justify myself which is sin. Another thing I liked about covering everythig with tithing from gross is that you won't have to tithe when you get your pension fund cz you already did by tithing from gross...lol.....can't wait to hear what you have to say about this!

Cody
26 Mar 2009 12:16

oh okay BA understood. I will not try to justify it anymore by saying 1/2 to the needy then the rest to the church. i will have to pay the tenth (after i minimise ikoloto)

Okay lets say after the robbery from Sars, you have to pay ibond (which is not cheap) for the car, and other bills e.g policies, groceries then from that you are only left with a little bit of money which way less than the tenth of your salary what do you do? then after that your family is suffering, ende you are the sole breadwinner what do you do you let your family suffer because you have to pay ithithe or what do you do?

Lela
26 Mar 2009 12:27

LOl @ Codz, that's why kuthwa tithe first then the rest God will supply all your needs according to His riches. The Pastor said if say you earn 10.000 and your tithe is 1000 bese you do everything else and collect the change to make 1000 it is no longer a tithe cz it has to be firstfruit,God first! Usathana uyaxoka kulegem when I get this job I will tithe faithfully from gross futhi, mnngcwi nasi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cody
26 Mar 2009 12:32

LOL Lela!! eish i was trying to justify and you got me there lol!! eish i will have to pray very very very very hard about the 10%. okay end of the month i am fixing everything so that i can afford the 10% i hate to admit that i have been stealing from God. LOL

FK
26 Mar 2009 13:24

Tithing becomes a difficult thing if you put GOD last.  We need to remember that He is the creator and He is the provider.  He has blessed us with paying jobs.  And of the money we receive for work done, He is asking us to return 10%.  He did not say 50%, but just 10%.  Ask yourselves this question?  What if God decides to take away the very same job He has blessed you with simply because we fail to return His 10%?  Maybe then we will have real excuses of not tithing (I am not working.  I don't have an income that is why I don't tithe)

We always put God last.  We might not be saying that, but our actions prove that.  Same goes for the the 1 day He has  set aside blessed and made Holy. He has given us 7 days in a week and He is only asking for 1 day which is the Sabbath of the Lord, and guess what?  We still fail to remember it and rest on that day.  We carry on with our lives as if its okay.

Malachi 3:8-10
"Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me.
"But you ask, 'How do we rob you?'
"In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

God promises a blessing to those who tithe and knowing my God, His promises are true and AMEN.

One and Only
26 Mar 2009 13:26

The bible clearly states that you should bring in 10% of your harvest so that there can be always food in the house of the Lord, the 10% does not refer to money only but everything that you do to earn a living. It also doesn't give time lines on when this 10% should be brought on to the Lord's house. A teacher, maize farmer and cattle stock farmer cannot tithe at the same time.

10% of everything that you earn belong to God as gold, silver and everything in this world belongs to Him and He has put men to look after it. If you are going to tithe, tithe wholeheartedly as He doesn't really care or need your 10%. Tithing gives you protection and allow you to ask whatever you need in life. When you have grown spiritual and has reached a certain level you will not worry about whether the 10% should be from gross or net, questioning in means that you tithe with a sore heart thinking what you could have done with that 10%.

Speaking in tongues is not a determinant of your spiritual level or a qualification that you are now a true believer, it depends on the church you are attending. If your church does not teach and encourage speaking in tongues you won't be able to. ever wondered why Roman Catholics do not speak in tongues?

I sometimes wonder what changed myself fr

Cody
26 Mar 2009 13:29

Thank you FK if your response came earlier, i would have felt sooooo bad, but then at least it came at a time when i had already spoken to my heart. therefore 10% it is!!!!!! i dont want to steal from my God, noo he has been so good to me, therefore the least i can do is to strive to honour his word!

belz
26 Mar 2009 13:52

okay, let me go to the tithing blog. the devil is hardening my heart, im thinking of 10% of my salary,i'll be totally f! if its no longer there.

One and Only
26 Mar 2009 13:58

If you pay your tithes using flock of sheep, depending on the time interval as most farmers consolidate their profits bi-annually. Lets say you have 100 sheeps at the end of your 6 months, your tithe would be 10 sheep.

For a maize, vegetable and fruit producer if you have produced 100 sacks/bags of each, your tithe would be again 10 bags of each. I myself am a testimony that tithing does work and God always reward you for it.

I cannot really tell what exactly happen that day but I all know is that I was down and out, the furniture stores had already started repossessing their things, was about to be evicted from my house and had other obligations I could not satisfy. That day the pastor's theme was tithing, I only had R330 left on my wallet.

I had nothing to lose anymore but one thought was telling me that I can use this money to at least buy food or save one piece of appliance but my faith told me to give it away to the church. I do not know what happened but I tell you now within a month things happened and I got my furniture and everything back.

In your own word; what is prayer?
How do you pray?
Does God answer prayers? Please share your personal experience
Do you know a silent prayer? Do you believe in one?
Does prayer work?
Wow, I could probably give "the right answers" for this questions but at this moment i feel like i'd be lying or something. I feel like i'm not as prayerfull as i should be,infact i know i'm not......

This is one hard topic for me......perhaps i do, but right now i dont think i know why....

Aaaand tounges...and the holy spirit annointing, these are Issues i'm usually even avoiding to think about....

So, i'm exposing the situation now as my way of starting to deal with the problem......

What do i do next?????????????
