The international news show Naked News is arriving in South Africa to launch an SA Naked News service and the show is looking for presenters.

Yes-yes, naked ones!

Naked News is a daily and weekly internet current events show that covers news in the regular way  - except that the anchors take off their clothes while they're reading the news so that by the end of the broadcast they're nude.

The tone of it is a mix of serious and light-hearted updates covering topics including politics, sport and entertainment.

The show first launched in 1999 and started with US news - since then it's extended to Canadian and International news and now it's extending to cover SA news, hosted by South Africans.

Casting Process

No premiere date has been anounced for it yet but the castings for anchors have opened. The process of it is similar to a reality show : suitable auditions are going to be featured on the Naked News website, people will vote for their favourites and those with the most votes will get the jobs. The US channel has 10 anchors and the SA one will have a similar number.

Who Should Apply?

The type of presenter the show is looking for is as follows, someone who is:

1. Interested and informed in current affairs.
2. Good conversationalist and good at interviewing.
3. Any presenting or public speaking experience a plus - but not required.
4. Confident and feel good about their body and comfortable with nudity.

The show won't consider anyone who has been involved in, or wishes to be involved in pornography.

Auditions are open to women - and men if you're a guy and interested. All the international versions only have women anchors but the introduction of men in SA is a possibility (one we're very much in support of!) so if you're a guy and you're keen,  you can apply too.

How To Apply

You can either submit a CV and picture; or you can send an audition video with a Naked News report in action. There's an example of a report on the Naked News website, which you can watch to get an idea of what to include (and take off!) in your video.

Once all the submittions and videos are in, the show will do auditions in various centres round the country to search for those who'll be presented to the public to vote for.

Just been to the site and I can't get over the fact that they actually report  real news/current affairs!  Maybe naked news has a therapeutic effect on viewers: Less depression/suicide rate if news of famine, war and disease are delivered by gorgeous hunks and sexy women. Makes what is terrible more palatable...

I guess you'll have to stick to watching the news on SABC with your family or do what you do when you're watching telly with your family and there are people kissing onscreen. I'm thinking that this service will be good for the un-informed/ those not interested in hard issues (no pun intended) as they'll also have something useful to contribute at dinner parties.

Yep, I'm still in West Africa mjj (been travelling a lot) but I'm usually lurking about somewhere on TVSA.

Just kidding about the men of the cloth by the way. Anyway, I don't think this channel will make it on free tv because we S Africans are a very conservative bunch (and rightly so) so it could end up on DSTV and nakhona around 12 midnight.

Nothing demonic or evil about the human body. God made us in his image and we should not be ashamed of our bodies. He put on us on this earth naked.
It is humans who brought the shame to naked body, especially in the victorian era. People should view the body as a beautiful thing and NOT associate nakedness with sex. I will be applying for the job!
