Don’t we all remember the days when you would complain about a stomach ache and then your mother/granny would give you a ¼ cup of water with camphor and the pain would go away?
There was (and still) are lots of remedies for common sicknesses/illnesses/discomforts like headaches, stomach aches the list goes on.

Here are my few remedies that work:
o Warm water and salt for a running stomach
ezase faraday

o Little bit of snuff/ntsu and you will sneeze the headache away

o 1 table spoon of Balsem Kopiva (those small Lennon bottles) with ½ glass of water for stomach cramps

Which homemade remedies do you still remember?
Which ones are you still using?
Which ones have you heard that you think are quite funny?

Let me share my most funniest of all times … from uBab’ Msholozi, take a shower to prevent HIV/AIDS after having unprotected sex with an HIV + person.

Lets hear them bloggers…

(BTW the reason for this blog is to get a remedy for a toothache)

Kele for flu you can boil stoney ginger beer and drink it before you sleep, like you do with med lemon, or you can boil fresh ginger and water add a bit of sugar and voila! stoney ginger beer.

coke to stop running stomach and vinegar to stop stomach cramps.

i'll come back for the tooth one..i bet i heard about it somewhere....

felfel
19 Feb 2009 14:19

For flu u need to sweat it out,  take med-lemon wit ginger,  disprin, honey and drink up hot and cover urself and sleep. It works on my brother, he sweats so much in the morning he wakes naked all his clothes and undewear on the floor wet and changes the sheet at midnight. but he's much much better in the morning.

When i have a dry wheezy cough i take a teaspoon of cooking oil, it works for me.

I use toothpaste to dry out a pimple and scrub my face with uncooked oats and yorghut.

For a toothache i go to the dentist the following morning, it also helps to rinse ur mouth every time u've eaten sweets/chocolates so the sugar don't settle on ur teeth.

Sana Lwam
19 Feb 2009 14:49

I remember when growing up my aunt got burned and they smeared egg on the burns (to minimize the burns or scaring ). Then I later learned from Soul City that you should not put anything on burns egg or toothpaste as it is dangerous.

So know drinking the madubula / Jeyes fluid while the bottle says: "for external use only"

19 Feb 2009 14:49

For colds and Flu:

Cut an onion into slices, put on a plate and put sugar on it.... After a while, some juice will be squezzed out of the onion, drink that juice, brush your teeth and you can say goodbye to a blocked nose...

while you still on remedies guys can someone tell me an affordable protein drink and where I can get it

Ms. Jay
19 Feb 2009 16:02

I heard that u have to drink istamenta with some water - like a dilution of some kind.

For a tooth ache - chew a clove or rub on your gums it numbs it.  My aunt said you can try black jacks - but i have never attempted to
For ear ache- warm cooking and garlic - then put it whilst warm not HOT
Colds an flu - try boiling gauva leaves, eucaplytus (spelling) leaves, and lemon juice + a disprin and some sugar - its sweet and eases the throat - also you can just boiling water to lemon juice (it cleans your body of toxins - your face clears up naturally) and a disprin for colds
For nyongo - stick a spada with water, salt and dishwashing liquid up your butt and shake your tummy for dear life (make sure you bent over) then all that kuck will come out and the soap. do it serveral times until desired results are achaived. afterwhich dont eat solids for 24hrs - have milk

Ms. Jay
19 Feb 2009 16:23

Yes - dishwashing liquid - you will feel when your tummy is clean trust me!!!

Ear-ache - the warm oil soothes teh pain and the garlic is an anti-biotic which kills the germs or bacteria - pour it in using something like an egg cup or tea spoon

Ms. Jay
19 Feb 2009 16:25

pot - ash? how come you drink it? that thing is meant to be rub on or bath in. Never heard of drinking potash

I had eczema early in January, I washed my face with rooibos tea. The rash didn't go away immediately, but the itching and the inflammation were gone almost instantly.

My mom does this sunlight thing on kids, but she uses the bar. She melts it in warm water and spades them with the mixture. My gran even did on us. I hated it then, I still hate it today.

19 Feb 2009 17:05

Lastly from me, there's this shlahla called lengana its good for flu. Boil it with H2O and drink the liquid. And also benerateor venerate shlahla is good for constipation.
apparently aloe/legala was used as a morning after remedy.

Styp/haarlemensis: ukuvikela the bambino from evil spirit/ubuthakathi/ go sireletsa phuwana
Borsdruppels and Jamaika gemer: flu
Groen amara: cleanse the inside
Balsem Kopiva: Ipholisa ngaphakathi (4those with C-section)
Lewens essens: Removes menstrual clots from da womb especially after idilivery and also philisa islumi.

The funny part is if you read on this bottles, most of them are said to used for kidney/renal related issues and has an age restriction yet thina we use them for babies.

Hey SL..............for toothache, you need to try itamati lesganga. Dig the roots, dry them, burn them and open your mouth very wide and inhale the smoke until the worms comes out and you will never hear of a toothache again. They say if you go to the doctor and take out your teeth, the worms hide to the next teeth and you will always have that sickness.

Inkinga ke ikuthi uyitholaphi lentuma (veld tomato) to take your woes away.  If all fails, go to Noord or any taxi rank, they sell tooth muti mos, ohlafuna maqedane uphimise.

It also helps for utwayi, you smear the juice from the tomato to the affected area and the itchyness goes away.
