Soul Positivity

So last night I managed to grow the Soul City fan base by another 3 new members! And it took some convincing. Not that I blame them, like I wasn’t a fan before this. In fact when I was convincing my big sister to compromise 30mins of the Grammys which were playing on Mnet, to watch Soul City, she mocked me by singing that old Soul City song, “City, Soul City…oh yelele, ah yelele, aha!”. Lol! But the battle was one and she did tune in. She smsed me after the episode:

Big Sister: Okay. I concede that was not bad at all. Will check it out again next week. O nkgopotse ne?! I’m now watching the Grammys.

Good, I said. That’s the spirit! This season is well made I tell you, pity if you’ve missed the other episodes (but you can read Cande’s blog, she does a detailed recap of each one) becase the stories of all the character is interesting. What’s great is that each episode is themed so as to not clutter the 30mins but rather to tell each story sincerely & honourably!

If you did watch all the espisodes so far like many of us have, you can really appreciate the complexity of what the characters are going through. But Zimele is pure scum, that’s what he is. Although I’m sure, as scripts often go, they’ll soon unfold some sad childhood story that’s going to make us all feel sorry for him.

The third recruit, my 18 Year Old Cousin (who also protested when I told her how our tv schedule was going to go) was discussing with me way after the show was over the yin and yang of life, referring to Lord of the Flies and how it says we all have a bit of evil in us, and just need the right circumstances for it to come out. She said as she started this conversation:

18YOC: “Waitse, (long pause)…Soul City just made me realise that nka bolaya motho (I could kill someone)”.

Hectic right? But an honest realisation perhaps from one who is yet to live life. What would you have done in Lebo’s situation? I mean it’s a huge deal, literally a matter of life and death and it just makes you wonder how you would handle the whole thing. For me that’s one of my worst fears, someone that I have been faithful to bringing me disease when I was home sleeping. Protection, people, protection!

What would you have done if you were Lebo? Be moved to make Ou Zimmy meet his maker sooner than planned? Or been as patient as she was? And if you are a girl, are you afraid of carrying condoms for fear of being called something unflattering?

Lebo took the news too lightly, or maybe she's still in shock..it takes some people a bit longer to realise the depth of a situation.

The last few seconds I caught of Soul city last night  she was sitting on the table chatting about this infection like..ow by the way u gave me a life threatening desease kanene... uyabona ke, its those types exactly that will kill you while you sleep!

If  I was Lebo I wouldnt have been able to even stand the sight of that man!  I also suspect Lebo knew her husband was a no good philanderer & at the back of her head suspected he might infect her, maybe subconciously she strongly suspected it all along & just needed confirmation.   I have heard some people say they if their spouses gave them Aids, they'd stay with them anyway coz where else can you go might as well stay with ur Aids together..

Its stupid to be afraid of carrying condoms- its like being afraid of carrying a weapon or mase spray while walking in a dark alley at night.  I mean even if you dont have consentual sex, a condom might come in handy if ur being raped , some rapists would take it.

Besides, a man who looks down on you for carrying a condom is not worth shagging coz clearly he's a male chauvinist who thinks sex is all about him & women should never take the initiative..mnxim!

No self respecting man would consider raping another individual and I believe people that rape of belittle others do not respect other people.

I would be too hurt to confront him the first time I hear of it , because it would be the man that I married whou would have cheated on me because personaly I will never , never cheat on my man.

I would not come back home, serious I would book into a hotel or sleep in a car cos only God knows what I would do to him if I saw him after discovering that I am +ve, and from there on I would divorce his cheating behind as I would never be able to trust him again with anything

Carrying condoms is not a bad thing, but buying them? Oh gosh, you should see how the tellers look at you when you pay..
Anyway, it's my life I'm saving, not theirs..

I agree with you Moody7, it also saves you from ignorant boys who will try to trick you to unprotected sex by saying they don't have condoms with them.
