Mama Yvonne Chakachaka has a dilemma. The 26th December 2008 was the happiest day of her life, she received an email from an organisation in the US inviting her to the inauguration of Barack Obama on the 20th of this month. This was an unexpected invite and she was over the moon - i mean who wouldn't be? She has secured herself a ticket to the US (bought by FNB) and is ready to go.
Yesterday (08/01/09) Mama received an email from an organisation she has been doing charity work with in Africa (Rwanda, Ethiopia and another country), informing her that she is required to resume her work with them as of 18/01/09 until the 26th of the month. Mama had signed a contract with this organisation in October last year confirming that she’d continue working with them this year.
Now Mama (like anyone) wants to attend the inauguration of Obama but she has a contractual obligation to do work in Africa. In her interview this morning, she said, she’s happy, sad and angry all at the same time. She tried to negotiate with the African organisation to postpone the start of the project so she can attend the inauguration, don’t know if the organisation can do that.
She’s really in catch 22, what should she do?
