The first round of the Idols 5 auditions finished in Cape Town on Friday (19 December, 2009) and move on to Durban and Jozi in the New Year.
DurbanThe Durbs auditions run from
Tuesday, 6 January 2009 to Thursday, 8 January at the International Convention Centre in the business district.
The first day of auditions is for registration - if you want to audition you have to go on the 6th - and the following two days are for callbacks.
Registration opens at 08h00 and you need to take your
ID book - auditions are open to everyone between the ages of 16 and 30.
Contestants under the age of 18 have to be accompanied by a legal guardian.
Before the auditions start the show will be on the following beaches scouting for talent: (as happened in Cape Town - see:
Idols5 on Camps Bay.)
2 January: Margate
3 January: Scottsboro
4 January: North beach
5 January: Umhlanga
JoziThe Johannesburg auditions begin on
Sunday, 11 January 2009 at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways.
They work the same way as the Durban ones - everyone who wants to audition needs to go on the 11th and callbacks etc will happen over the next two days.
Other NewsBoth Gareth Cliff and Dave Thompson have now been confirmed as judges so the original pack of four are back for the season.
25 Cape Town finalists made it through to the Top 100.
