I was reading an article about shows that were cancelled in America and from what I can see, if you don't pull anything like 10mil viewers, you are out on your ear. Its amazing to note that here in SA if you get anything like 500 000 viewers, then you are doing well.

From week 13 to 19 October 3rd degree came second to 2nd to special assignment. Still both did not attract over I million viewership. They still under performing.

Asikhulume and Motswako are 1 million plus viewership. Must be doing something right. A lot of viewership watching soapies, wonder why? Anybody care to explain.

Somebody wrote an article saying etv news is one of the best, judging from the above it seems etv news rate second best to SABC 1. The other one is WWE smack down, over 2 mill viewership and it was said that it is watched by 40 year olds. Wonder how true that is.

America has a bigger population than South Africa, and although I don't know what the actual figures are, there's no doubt that a much larger proportion of Americans have access to a TV.  Therefore you can't compare the viewing figures of the two countries directly.

You also need to consider the language issue.  A lot of people watch SABC1's news not because it's necessarily better than e.tv, but because it's in their home language.

Thanks Citanul. I do agree that in the US a lot of people have access to TV. Here in SA a lot of people only have access to SABC channels and no etv especially in rural areas. Let us not forget that some people have dstv and they don't usually watch the likes of etv or SABC.
Yes, etv has the best news coverage, I always watch e-news, I find it is most reliable.

Partly agree with you Citanul. Look at the figures for Sotho news. Is it because by the time that they are read they are so yesterday or is because they understand the Nguni new, therefore it does not matter listening to Sotho news?

To be convinced by your fact, SABC needs to screen both the Nguni and Sotho news at the same time to see how viewership does both these channel attract.

Afrikaans news can move to the 8:30 slot. I do not think it will do them any harm.
Personally I watch the SABC3 news first and then move to ETV later since they repeat anything ad nuseum. I do not miss anything on ETV news but SABC 3 I will miss a lot since they do not repeat them.

The biatch in me wants to know the ratings for SowetoTV... 500? 700?

Mina I watch eTV news which is the best in the country by far. Will never waste my precious 30 minutes on SABC news.

interesting that Heroes isn’t attracting as many viewers as Prison Break did in the same timeslot – since PB S1 is also much older than Heroes S2.
