SABC Vuka Sizwe Concert

SABC Vuka Sizwe Concert

The show was about a fight against “women and child abuse”. Specifically it was in commemoration of Sarah Bartman, a woman who was disrobed and used as an object in London. She was shown blatant and brazen disrespect, I don’t know how people so inhumane sleep at night. She was promised fame and money to agree to go to London and she died at the age of 26 because of pneumonia. R.I.P. Sarah!

Imagine if there would be people doing this to you:

saara

What would you do? How would you cope with such treatment? I believe all the culprits to this crime will get what they deserve. Some men are degrading us men, in fact they don't deserve to be called men, "Molesters" suits them very well!

The show started with technical problems, the lady who was saying her poem was inaudible and I heard something like “her mic is off” in Sesotho. The show continued and they moved the camera away from her and she appeared again with a hand-held microphone and everything was fine, she did not start from scratch, she just continued. Well, there was not even a mere “we are sorry about the technical glitch”, the show just continued as if nothing happened.

Camagwini                                      Suthukazi

The performances were African through and through, with Camagwini and Suthukazi acting like “sangomas / amagqirha”! Their African-ness may make them seem well below par, but in actual fact, they were splendid, in an African way! (you know what I mean). This was the first time hearing of Suthukazi, and she was acting all "sangoma sangoma"!!

Some of the perfomers (that I can remember): Lebo Mashile, Ntsiki Mazwai, Camagwini, Rae, KB, Zamajobe, Zonke, Suthukazi, Lira, Bucie! The performers were all females. I am sure all the girls who were expecting to see men strutting their stuff were very disappointed, but we guys were thrilled to see such African beauty!

Zamaj

I ROFLMAO when a friend of mine (who is a guy) commented on Zamajobe’s dress, he said it was “HIDEOUS”, and I couldn’t agree more. I always refrain from commenting on ladies’ fashion because I do not know much about it. But some girls just stretch the guys’ tolerance to the limit. That outfit was hideous and that is a fact, she had a nice sweet voice to compensate for the horrible dress though, so she is forgiven!

KBKB2

KB was wearing a huge London-winter-jacket over a beautiful outfit. I was so irritated because she was next to someone wearing beads (Ntsiki), this reminded me of the Touch-Bonang thing on studio! But I whispered something to her left ear to take off that heavy winter jacket and she did as I asked! Some of the bloggers were moaning saying that KB did not deserve to be in the top12 Mzansi sexy women, well just look at the pic above and tell me if she does not ooze sexyness!

Bucie

Bucie was my highlight of the show, she made the crowd stand up and dance with her “Ngicelindoda” hit single. She “xozad” me when she asked “Ndiyifumene ke indoda namhlanje?”! She has a beautiful strong voice, I loved her performance. Now I know how the jackal cries like, ithi teleteleteleteletele……… She has the potential to be the new Brenda and Lebo Mathosa! And she can dance, she is so yummy, that blonde hair! It looks like she has become bigger and bigger ever since she made the cover of her cd above. She must be enjoying herself in the industry or sleeping a lot! Anyway don't worry Bucie, Oprah has the same problems, she just gets bigger and bigger, no matter how hard she trys to remain thin!

lebooo

One other person who seems bigger than before is Lebo Mashile. I like her American accent, I was surprised when I heard her saying something in Sotho, I assumed she was too good for any South African language. I misjudged her and labelled her as a coconut, and I was wrong, that girl is proud of where she comes from and I love her for that! I think she was looking forward to Janet Jackson's weight loss tips book, but to her (and others) dismay, the release of the book was pigeonholed because JJ is becoming bigger and bigger like a blown baloon, which shows that her tips are not working! Anyways, just asking, are we gonna bury you with that Afro?

Ntsikiki

Ntsiki’s beadwork *sigh*! I love bead work but what she was wearing in the concert was not wow! It was OK! Do you still have the dreadlocks you had in the 20th century? Move with times baby! I was never a fan of poetry, until the rise of Lebo Mashile (nice sexy voice and accent) and Ntsiki Mazwai! It seems like poets have brains, they have a smart way using words, they should teach me, I wanna make people cry after reading my blogs, LOL!

Women, stop going to clubs at night and drink yourself into oblivion! There are vultures out there, they are waiting for victims to take advantage of like you!

A friend of mine was in a club, got a few drinks from a certain guy, then she wakes up in the bushes in the middle of nowhere, she cannot even describe the guy, she does not know what happened to her, but she knows for sure tha someone had sex with her, she does not know how many, she does not know if whether they used a condom or not, but she cannot see one where she was lying, this is sad and it can happen to anyone, please take care women!

so so true. Women can never be careful enough. I hear people going on about how they are free to be where and with whom they please and i don't understand how people can be so trusting! it's a sick world out there.

Won't say great one Joe!

Great job Joe!

KB is HOOOOTTT! What was Terry thinking?
Camagwini is scary, that chick looks as if she can call you on stage & chaza you with her sangoma outfits.
As for uBucie celing indoda I could not understand,  as it is the same madoda who abuse women & children! Wasn't there another song she could sing?
And then uLira esimoshel'ixesha, dlaling ngobuso?  What a bore!!!

Loved Lebo & Ntsiki.

felfel
11 Nov 2008 09:31

I watched the show a little, i enjoyed the perfomances but i was just damn irritated every time Lebo Mashile came on to the stage and repeated everything she had said about Sarah Bartman, its as though they didn't have much content on her history, she just kept repeating how she was ridiculed as if trying to outsource sympathy from her audience.
I love Rae's song but her backup singers failed her.

Camagwini has an element of ukuthwasa, i'm not saying unenkenqe but she exudes such.

I also enjoyed Ayanda's perfomance (not Aya), she sounded so much mature i was impressed, and her dress was stunning.

I didn't get to see the others but i can't believe Bucie performed there as well.

Lebo Mashile is a very passionate, well rounded performer, i call her a perfomer and not just a poet cos she performes her poetry, she delivers it orally and physically too.

11 Nov 2008 10:51

Wow people. Anything nice to say???
I think that it's great that these women are not conforming to the "high" standards set by us women, forgetting that when they do reach our standards we are again the first to criticize them. They are trying to be unique and it's working (i dont like it, but it's better than abo Bonang and noticeably fake hair.) This blonde hair thing that women go for these days is just trying way toooo hard.

Way to go ladies but stop shaking.....

GML
11 Nov 2008 10:53

At least abo Camagwini and the likes dont have to open their legs in order for them to get recognised in the industry. It's a change from the usual crap we see from abo Kelly "virgin" Khumalo and Chomee.

Joe
11 Nov 2008 11:24

Yah guyz gotta admit, Camagwini is kinda scary when she is performing, even though I am not squeamish, she scares me a bit!

Nonny :I would swear that is not the same Joe who ate Awelani alive when she joked about Noeleen's weight. There's no easy way of putting this, it was then but this is now, I hope the explanation is clear!

Feza : why can't she just be herself? Bucie? Why do people in south africa like to put people in boxes. what fakeness! We need to have benchmarks dear, we have to compare them and say, she is as good as X, or she is better than Y or she is worse than Z! This is the best way to keep standards!

BS : I beg to differ, that song is great, I love it, its not crap at all!

11 Nov 2008 12:18

Suga Babe : I did not touch the computer after writing the article, I was busy until now!

Feza : baby, if we don't compare them to the prev artists, how are we gonna know that the industry is improving or not?

GML : True, then don't have to resort to flashing their thighs, reveal their punanis when performing in public, or let men lick their breasts!

Oh I forgort to express my disappointment, I was very disappointed when I did not see Unathi perform "Ndifunugoduka" at the end of the show! The song would express how much Sarah longed to go home when she was kept by those evil monsters! The song was more relevant for the show than any of the other songs! And Khanyi should have performed "I miss you" from her album, just to express how much we all miss sarah and how much Sarah missed us and How much her family missed her and how much she missed her family! there you go mjj, LOL!

I personally do not like Unathi but her song is nice. I like it. Camagwini looks the way she does, but then again we dont know how amabloggers look like. So let's not say who looked like what and comment on the show and the performances

I saw it Joe,... but decided not remark on it being a human rights activist ,  I consider gender violence and the rape drug phenomena an extremely serious topic which deserve more than just a fleeting remark....  And I tend to take such advice from expert,... fiy,  I am being considered an expert in my country on gender violence.

Simmone
12 Nov 2008 09:06

Scorn the man for the pumping the woman’s system with alcohol and date rape drugs in the hopes of raping her than scorn the woman for being naïve into thinking the man she is drinking with is enough of a gentleman to call her a taxi and get her home safely. Teach the man that when a lady is sloshed and passed out she is not sending the message that I want to get fucked but the message that she needs help and protection. By no means am I resolving women from protecting themselves, but I am tired of hearing wo/men stand up for men who don’t know the word gentleman is and what’s is right and what is wrong. Teach the wo/man to respect themselves. Teach the wo/man the significance and value of sex and respecting their own bodies.

With 16 days of activism approaching I hoped that SA could scream the message clearer and took action.

LOL @TheLady he's not mean he's telling the truth.

@ntsiki mazwai I was gonna debate, but there’s nothing there to debate.
You ruined the concert, your outfit, Insila and that Worst performance you did!!!!!!
To debate I’m looking for something like www.ntiki.com NOT a big fat yahoo.
I think you meant to ask yourself these question Ntombazane: <<Are you a dope performer? are you celebrated? does your work have a positive impact on the community?>> Because you are NON of the above

Joe

Ntsiki Mazwai : i still maintain that you guys never have anything positive to say about your artists.
Joe : I was never a fan of poetry, until the rise of Lebo Mashile (nice sexy voice and accent) and Ntsiki Mazwai! It seems like poets have brains, they have a smart way using words, they should teach me, I wanna make people cry after reading my blogs, LOL!
I think this is a positive comment, but if you see anything negative with it, sorry!

Advice : do not respond to anything that the bloggers say! bloggers get a kick from getting people all worked up for nothing!

WSG : I saw it Joe,... but decided not remark on it being a human rights activist , I consider gender violence and the rape drug phenomena an extremely serious topic which deserve more than just a fleeting remark.... And I tend to take such advice from expert,... fiy, I am being considered an expert in my country on gender violence. Drop the holier-than-thou attitude!

Simmone, thanks for the inteligent comment baby! You made a good point!

Guys can you please stop bashing Ntsiki, she is one of us now, she is a blogger! We are supposed to love her! I love your poetry sisi! (Don't respond to the comments Ntsiki, please)

Suga Babe : You ruined the concert, your outfit, Insila and that Worst performance you did!!!!!!
Have u ever been to a poetry session? Obviously, no! I enjoyed Ntsiki's performance, I think it was great, she did not ruin KB's performance at all, that was a nice remix/ colab! Obviously you don't like poetry, so please Ntombazana, yehlisa umoya neh! No more insults from you, thats an order!

Damn you guys....Poor Ntsiki....LOL
@ Ntsiki: There is a very good reason why we have so many "celebrities" here, who "defend themselves" under non-real names....shame..

ROFL..

Guys, I need to correct myself!!!! I mistook Bucie for Phumeza...when I saw the title "Ngicelindoda" I thought you guys were referring to that "who told you that I'm a man-eater" song....
Apologies for any embarassment caused to Bucie, her fans and family! I've never heard her music....too much Talk Radio 702!
