Is It The End For Generations?

I don't know why people are so hush hush about it but I'ma talk about it coz I heard it and I can't keep quiet any longer..... 

Heh guys, word on the street is....

SABC/SABC 1 (not sure who exactly) is working on a brand new soapie for Mzansi Fo Sho and the soapie is expected to TAKE OVER from Generations! 



Not take over as in "take Generations off air" but as in make it hotter than Generations and have the number one show on their channel as something more representative of who they are...
You know how they love saying Fo Sho is young, bold and trendsetting so can you say the same thing about Generations? No! 
So, please don't take everything I say here as 100% correct, this is the little that I heard and some of the stuff may or may not be exactly as I tell you:
What is definitely TRUE though is that YES, THERE IS ANOTHER SOAPIE IN THE PIPELINE and it might even start airing 5 days a week, just like Generations is. (Poor Muvhango still struggling for the 5 days)!
Obviously, Generations, being the most watched show in SA can't be taken off air so my thinking is they've kinda seen ukuthi there isn't much more they can do with it so the best thing to do is to create a totally new thing that is much more relevant.

I mean, really now...Karabo gets married to Paul, they live happily every after, what else will Generations be if Karabo is happy? 
The past 3 years or so have mainly been about her ups and downs and I doubt Connie wants to retire there so something needs to happen. 

Okay, enough speculation, here's what I heard: 

This is going to be a hot fresh soapie that keeps it real and represents what the people of Mzansi really go through (unlike Generations)...

Three Families

One rich, 

one middle-class, 

and one poor

One of them is coloured. 

It's Fo Sho so obviously one of them will be Zulu *rolling my eyes* and I don't know about the other. 

So there are parents and kids in these families so I think there's gonna be a lot of "ubaba ujol' enext door" typa thing. 

Talented, fresh, beautiful cast members & lotsa new faces I hear so that's what it is and I wanna know what you think of that.

If this is true, and they really are working on a new soapie: 

- What are your DO's and DONT's? 

- What would be a great time slot for this, should it be on 5 days a week?

TheIR  6:00 PM timeslot is full of cheap shows made at a cost of 2000 per min, so if they are bringing a new soapie, that is the perfect slot.
Whatever , a long running soap gets stale and follows a parten....i just hope the new soapie does not become like one of their bad 8:30 dramas which look like they where shot ko KAE-KAE, shuu....WHATEVER, SICK AND TIRED OF SABC........

SABC is being toying with this idea for quite sometime.i remember that both zone 14 and mzansi were originally envisiond to take over from generation but somehow that never happened.but it will b good for sabc 1 to have another soapie that pulls in the numbers

both zone 14 and mzansi were originally envisiond to take over from generation but somehow that never happened
I also heard that tha-bang but zone 14 was too lokshin to take over Generations which also has a huge zilalini following. I mean what were they thinking really?

BS I think the new soapie should take the 20:00 slot and Gene should be moved to 18:00, 18:30 or 20:30 because I also think the time slot more than the story/acting is what is working for it.
When I saw the title of your blog I was like "Oh Gaad let it be true" before even reading.

As boring and annoying as Generations is - what is SABC 1 without Generations. No matter what change the people from SABC want - they'll never EVER get rid of Generations, Jam alley and Zola 7... 
They did us the favour of getting rid of those presenters - I mean ambassodors... Now - getting rid of Generations is like asking for a bonus in June... U know they can do it but they wont!!!

I hope the rumour is true coz uGenerations is becoming uBold wase Mzansi!!! Ayifuni kuphela, with the same  storylines just remixed!!

We say it sucks but we still watch it. @cleve....ppl watch coz there is nothing better so hopefully the new soap will be much better and give Generubish a run for their money. I think they shud put it on their 18:30 slot coz last time i checked nothing good was going on there. And at that time it will have to fight 7de laan, Isidingo and Rhythm City!

I don't think bringing a new soapie is a good idea, they must work on Generations and put on the quality actors that are lacking. I mean some of the actors there are damn good but some sucks big time. What ever ideas they have on a new soapie, must be implemented on the current one. Because even the new soapie will loose it's touch when time goes on. I mean that's the culture of SABC (MZANSI FOR SUCKS).

Generations has been on SABC tv for a very long time but one thing I know is they have  a great quality of actors you look at guys like oo Menzi Ngubane, Sonia Mbele, Connie Ferguson and the list is endless... It also was a great stepping stone for some actors who were fresh in to the tv scene... For mna the story line is really trerrible... For me Isidingo rocks, who ever rights ezabo iscripts, they are doing a great job... We havent produced great quality tv shows in a very long time... the 80's and the 90's were great.. andifuni ukuthetha niks ngo zone 14, not namhlanje anyways... if you give a talent actor like uMenzi Ngubane a whack line, the show will also be whack... So they just need to brushen up their story line and lets see if they read this blog and get some tips...

well i dont mind as long as they are gorgeous guys on this new show coz the ones on gernerations just dont do it for me. sibusiso is too fat, kenneth ugly, samuel well i want him as my brother, ajex so skinny, khapela is just khapela and i wont sa much,well dumisani is not too bad but not exacly hot either,max is guys i wont even look at him twice, adam well he is different,paul would have left his shoes under my bed when he was on scandal and now hell no.

u can say all you like about Generations being a bore, but i dont think so,  just check out the replies compared to all other soapies and check yourself if you feel like watching anything else during the week ngabo8.  No so i think that this only makes GEnerations the best soapie so far and i bet you there is still a long way for it to go before they scratch it out of SABC1. A new sopaie, wow, guys i hail from Uganda where i catch generations on a local cable service provider. being one hour ahead of RSA, means i get to watch it at 21:00 hours- which is ok, coz im always having dinner then.
I have watched the series since 1997 and i must say having ben an on and off fan, its changed so much. But one of the things i make noise about is having  exiting characters, with fewer doors left  open for them to return. One of the things that has made soaps like YR, OLTL, AMC, DOL, ATWT, is that they have returning characters that do make a come back as mature changed people, which is true to the facts of life. and ususally they only return as reccuring cast members who are on contract for a few months. imagine Ntsiki returning to teach villians like Ken Mashaba a lesson. I really find it boring with villians like Anne go suchne. Bad move people.
And Mfundi saying that they are making way for younger people, .. in 5 years those characters shall  have grown old and then what?
characters  such as Kay Chancellor played by Jeanne Cooper  for 35 years has certainly kept the soap going. why cant we have the same for generations?
Another thing we need is to have cross overs. There could be a deal  wih in the SABC networks, to allow characters move from one soap to another- imagine having barker haines chalenging mashaba . In a story arc, where the two are best friends or worst enemies, that could work for viewers of any one of the sopaies.....

im ugandan and i catch generations via satelite on SABC one (at 9:00 pm coz we are +1 CAT), making old cast members come back,  may not have done a lot, but it surely broke the monotony.... may be they should have tried bringing back the real old timers, nomvete and her crew- not for a full blown season, they could get her to make a few  episode appearances?

as for the new soapie, one rich one middle class, one poor, ya we have seen all those story lines in the soaps, thats what makes a classic soap... the class differences, and then they will tell us that the poor guy falls in love with the rich girl, and their parents are against it????? bla bla bla

Why does power alert.co.za wait for 8:28 or 8:29 pm ( 9:29 pm +1 CAT) to make those power alert messages, thats the most crucial time of the entire programme. it becomes worse when there are subtitles running (clearly not all of us on the continent can understand xhosa, zulu and tswana)- so the ubtitles help alot. this has happened a zillion times, and it gets quite irritating, when u dont kno what the hangline of the episode is.
