Last week Thursday (22 May, 2008) M-Net announced the launch of the new reality show High School Musical: Spotlight SA.

If you haven't heard the news, here's all the goss - Coming Soon: High School Musical SA.

The search officially swings into action next week and begins with the Open Day auditions at various centres around the country.

Here are the venues and dates for each, as well as must-know audition guidelines:

Port Elizabeth
Date:  Friday, 6 June 2008
Venue: The ETC Conference Centre, corner of Spondo and Uitenhage Roads, Struandale.

Cape Town
Date: Friday, 13 June 2008
Venue: The River Club, Liesbeek Parkway, Observatory.

Johannesburg
Date: Thursday, 19 June and Friday, 20 June 2008
Venue: The Wanderers Stadium, Corlett Drive, Illovo.

Durban
Date: Friday, 27 June 2008
Venue: The BAT Centre, Victoria Embankment

The auditions are open to absolutely anyone between the ages of 16 and 25 who think they have a future in musical theatre. Anyone interested must simply turn up at the above venues on the stated day to register, and remember to bring their ID documents.

Contestants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Anyone who fails to register on the first day will not be able to audition later on, so it’s crucial to get there early.

The auditions will commence at 09h00 in each city.

Everyone who registers will be asked to audition for a panel of industry professionals in three categories: singing, dancing and acting. Auditionees can sing any popular song they feel comfortable with and perform any dance routine.

Upon registration they will be given a scripted piece from Disney Channel’s High School Musical movie to prepare for the acting audition.

Every contestant must audition in all three categories to qualify.

Those who make it through the initial audition on the Friday will be asked back for the next round of auditions on the Saturday and the Sunday. It will be a long, tough weekend for all involved, so it is recommended that all participants bring along everything they need to stay comfortable - something to eat, enough water to drink and jackets, scarves, wraps and beanies to keep warm.

If you're off to the auditions - break a leg!

I have always waiting for this type of major production. I can sing, dance and I can act. Im from Durban. I basically watch high school musical every day with my friends little niece, i am 18 years of age and i think that this would be perfect for me. I have previously acted in theatre in "Romeo and Juliet" and i acted @ the Elizabeth Sneeden Theatre. I won first prize for drama. tHIS IS CERTAINLY GOING TO BE FUN
