What's your take on this?

Hi bloggers

I've been a driver for a year now and I must say, I'm good....BUT (a big one).............

I always drive barefoot, I started when I was still a learner and I found out that I got better control of the car and I never stopped. Only one of my friends knows and he has warned me about numerous feet problems that I might encounter.

Everytime I drive with shoes on I just can't feel the pedals, I always feel as I'm going to accelerate instead of braking.

OK, what's your take on that? Am I the only one in Mzansi who does that.

Hope it's not that weird.

Oh, and the only thing I hate about it is the hassle of always have to take the shoes off before I drive and......(the worst) ...to put them back on after parking, especially if it's boots of takkies with iintambo.

I have a friend who does this as well.....and  i suggest you slowly teach yourself to drive with shoes on.

I AM FEELING YOU GIRL!!!!  I have the same problem.  I tried driving with sneakers and i just lost control of the car.  I mean you dont know if your foot is touching the pedals or not.  You can see it but you cant feel it!  I feel i will cause an unecessary accident if I drive with my shoes on!

But its had always been a dream of mine to drive my car wearing my hot black dress and my Jimmy Choo shoes! How sexy would that be???

<<Only one of my friends knows and he has warned me about numerous feet problems that I might encounter. >> What problems??? Plz tell....

No Nosakhe, you are not the only one, I hate the hassle as well! Especially when in boots!!!!

Kwakwakwa, Toxic, am I that friend? Lol, no seriously, I've been driving since November, but the funny thing is that when i was learning, my instructor would insist I wear shoes, so I opted for All Stars, but as soon as I started driving i,on my own, it was over, shoes no longer did it for me.
So now, i drive with my shoes close by, just in case i'm stopped.
But seriously hey, I cant drive with shoes, it feels weird, like i'm not in control, I tried once on my way to work, and my car stalled at a robot coz my clutch control was not working....

But ya Toxic, i need to slowly go at it...

@ CB What problems??? Plz tell....Well, fristly, I'm glad I'm not the only one. He said I will develop somethings, corn-like, under my feet; my feet will get really hard and  that I will only need break fluid to treat it.

To be honest, I dont believe him but I do worry sometimes, esp. last summer because my feet felt a bit too hot than before.

Rene, Charlie and Nosakhe....What i don't get is HOW does this begin? You walk just about everywhere with your shoes on, it's only natural that u'd drive with your shoes on as well aint it?

I just think pedals are DIRTY and would not want to place my bare foot on them for fear of getting foot disease- i may drive the car most of the time but there are days when someone WHO WEARS SHOES THAT HAVE STEPPED ON DOG POO OR WHATEVER ISH will drive it.

Rene, hey wena....i told u i felt a connection to you!

I understand you Nosakhe, mna ke i can drive in anything except for high heeled sandals i cant brake when im wearing these, for some reason the car switches off when i brake, in summer i have slip ons that stay in my car, i wear them when i drive and switch to sandals when i get out, like Tox, i also think pedals are dirty, wont drive barefoot, no!

I also used to do that, but i promise you come winter and you're wearing your boots you WILL drive with your shoes on..

i think the technique is to position your feet right......  otherwise its really not that difficult.  the first time i drove ka di boots i was so happy and i never looked back and the only reason i did its because it was icy cold and there was no way i was gonna take my boots off.

so, you'll be fine!!!!!! it happens to most of us

I feel more in control of the car, it's like driving with my hands because I can feel which pedal I'm pushing and, like I said, my worst fear will be to accelerate instead of breaking.......It happened before, and I ended up with a broken arm and no car.

Lol Tox, it makes sense now.

As for how it starts, Eish, I don't know, coz mina I started driving with takkies while learning, but on my own, i just took them off, and ddnt look back. But now that you mention the dirty pedals and foot diseases, eish, i need to start acquanting myself to driving with shoes....

You just have to practise how to drive with shoes on girl....Honestly its not that big a deal at all...
I'll give you a few pointers....this is how I learnt to drive by the way

1. Don't do it in traffic_choose a quite day
2. start with closed shoes, pumps are the best cause the sole is so flat you can feel the pedals underneath, and then slowly graduate yourself to other shoes with your aim being driving in 5 inch stilletos.
3. You do not have to feel the pedal to know you have control of the car....practice with thick soles as well_ ur cotrol should not be on the feeling rather on the position of ur feet, if it too far down on the accelerator_u don't need to feel the pedal to know that u r probable speeding...

I can drive in any kind of shoe today with out any problem...It just take practice and getting used to it

yeah fluffy, i can also drive in any kind of shoe unless the sole of the shoe was ALLROUND-WEDGISH ..don't know what they are called but the Spice Girls wore them back in the day.

Nosakhe, who taught you how to drive? The FIRST TIME you got in a car, didn't u have shoes on?

Rene...your foot doesn't grip the pedal as much as a rubber-soled shoe does.

I've had my licence for over 5yrs BUT took a break from driving for over 3yrs.I've only been driving constantly since the beginning of the year and I was soo shocked to realize i had lost the skills of controlling pedals properly,I've had my car stop at the robots,i've had other driver hooting at me.It's was so embarrassing.I am getting there though but i can never drive with high heels before,i always drive with a flat shoe on takkies, push ins.I've tried driving without shoes on and it felt weird.

I am terrified,i am starting work in Joburg next month and i have never driven in as much traffic as Joburg has.

@Sakhs I feel you there girl. I cannot drive with high heels it feels way too uncomfortable but flat shoes are fine. I can't imagime driving barefoot though, the thought of metal on the soles of my feet is just....I don't know. Instead I always drive in my slippers, it is a hassle but I leave the house wearing the slippers and I carry my shoes. It takes forever to get out of the car though because I need to change shoes as I mostly wear high heels to work.

Eish...I have the same problem as well, and the way I'm soooo comfortable driving with my feet, I don't think I wanna try something else. At the same time I wanna be like those chicks who drive with their high heels on. I shuld put this problem on my resolution list....STRESSED already the thought of putting on my shoes....PHEW!
