After getting my bum all glued to the telly to watch the fascinating Oprah shows, SABC 3 decided to show two Oprah movie preview shows in a row. You all know how I feel about Oprah promos… Aaah! *very deep sigh*
I am an artsy movie chick so you would rarely find me at the mainstream movie theaters for the “normal” movies. I frequent Cinema Noveau and love those French, Spanish, Greek and some foreign language movies that I can’t hear a word of what the actors are saying but they convince me to drop a tear or two. So I have been waiting for a very long time for the Benicio Del Toro movie “
Things we lost in the fire” in which Halle Berry is also starring.

Oprah previewed the movie by having these main two actors on her show to share some goss and give us an inside into their private lives. So, Oprah’s friend Halle in her stylish but tiny dress and her mini-bump of joy were the first to stroll on stage. Yep, Miss Berry was a mom-to-be sometime last year (she should be close to popping now, remember we get to watch last season’s Oprah’s in Msanzi). She looked snazzy and fabulous even at 41! Oh she’s good! I really hope I got blessed with such genes and will look just as good as her when I am her age and still look as virile as Tina at her age.

She was really comfy; and kinda let us into her life quite a bit more than some stars. I think I am a gossip; but nah I don’t buy tabloid mags so I can’t be. Oprah is my source of goss. HA ha ah! Anyway, Halle is dating some stunning model dude, Gabriel Aubry. I did admit to being fashion challenged so can’t even keep up with the models. She says the molecules in the room changed when she met him and pheromones were flying all over the place. Hmmmm! Sho! I wish King K would say that about me.
Proud parents-to-be Halle and GabrielGabriel is doing something right because Halle beamed with joy when she spoke about his integrity and honesty. She says he is an authentic self and has made her appreciate honesty – even when it will hurt she is honoured to hear it. She said Oprah’s telephonic advise “Halle, without integrity there is no love” during her hard past helped her. She said she still feels strongly about not getting married because they have a spiritual connection. They share the same values and are equals. They are redefining commitment to each other without involving the government.
She said they tried a long time before she finally got preggies. She kept the positive home tests and all those (35 in total) negative tests; methinks Halle is sentimental. She always knew that she wanted to be a mother. She doesn’t know te sex of the baby – I agreed with her! There are so little surprises in the world these days! I also did not want to know when I was preggies with Prince K. As soon as she pops, she vows to start all over again for the next one so Halle and Gabriel want more than one child.
She was drawn to this movie because of her readiness to be a mother and the movie gave her the platform to experience it. In the movie she plays Audrey; a mother of two dealing with her husband’ death and has to deal with her husband’ oldest friend and his issues! She believes that energy draws her to the things she needs and she needed to do the movie to grieve and be a mother. She learned that no matter what hardship you go through; you need to find some good in it! There’s good in every bad.
Ok, what movie is Halle not excellent in? She says, they did not want her to star in the movie because they were set on David Duchovny being the lead and they were not certain what race the kids would be if they cast her. Huh? Really now! So she had to meet the producers and the directors and pitch to them that she would be excellent for the role. As she joked, “they never want me” – I felt sad that she has to almost hustle for parts or does this mean she gets sent crappy scripts and the ones she really wants she has to plead for?
Before Oprah called Benicio Del Toro on stage, she mentioned that her producer gave her some advice that I felt Oprah should take for each and every show. The producer told her to wear lower heeled shoes! She was warned she might fall over when she sees how jaw-droppping gorgeous Benicio is. She was told he oozes gorgeousness!
Benicio Del Toro Well, I had one thing to say about Benicio when he walked out “What the hell have they done to your hair? Oh no! Looks like a dog licked it and the hairdo just got stuck”. I am a huge fan of this man since I saw
Traffic and he won an Oscar for it! He looked even better on that movie than on Oprah’s couch – the hairdo just looked wrong! His eyes! Tiny tiny slits…
Anyways, Oprah started by reading out words that her staff had used to describe him – sexy and mysterious were among the words and I agreed! The goss mags never have anything on him…
Halle had mentioned earlier that she had always wanted to work with Benicio, and Oprah wanted to know why he is called “Benny the troublemaker” on film sets. The answer she got is because he wants to keep the movie fresh – I was confused.
In this movie, he plays Jerry; an ex-lawyer now dealing with heroine addiction and Audrey’s husband’s best friend. He prepared for the role by sitting with ex-addicts and reading about addiction. He said his heart went pitter-patter when he was told Halle would be part of the movie. He also was keen to work with her because “She’s good to look at and she’s good at acting.” She was also a surprise on set because she has such integrity that she is available to give herself; actor to actor.
Halle and BenicioOprah then decided to see if what she has read about the stars in the tabloids is true so did a bit of Halle and Benicio trivia questions. Halle admitted to not having a bath for about a month while she was preparing for a role in the movie
Jungle Fever. She wants to play a round of golf with Tiger Woods one day – she wouldn’t even mind making a fool of herself because she would just have fun. So even if she is embarrassed at her lack of golf skills, she wouldn’t care because she would have shown up and tried. She laughs a lot – about everything and nothing.
Benicio loves the Discovery channel and can watch it for hours. He played a boy that looked like a dog in some movie. Was an extra in Madonna’s
La isla bonita video. He loves the three stooges
I just wondered why Oprah didn’t have David Duchovny as part of the guests, he was in the movie too.
