I am one of those unfortunate ppl who never got the right guidance towards my career. Yeap i managed to choose the right one, but there are still a lot of people out there who simply go to school just because their parents are sending them, not knowing what they want to become, or how to get there. And also we didn't know which careers will give you a better life in the end..

So I was right about being a gynae....Sigh.

01 Feb 2008 03:06

Hmm, interesting, but I must say, as an electrical engineer, I know for a fact that experience plays a huge role in the salary, so that figure is not what i'm getting now, but i know i'm not being screwed over, coz i've only been in the industry for 13 months. I guess the same can be said for all the proffession though.

I should have done medicine and been a gynae or a radiologist...geez. Lol at Pyschiatrists getting so much money! And bank managers! Geez, who would have known.

lepogo
01 Feb 2008 03:14

I wanna be a gynae in my next lifetime, watch vajayjays and getting sooo much moolah while doing it?????

Careful here,I might drool all over this keyboard...

I would like to know is engineering a popular career choice with the baVenda people, i've met a lot of baVenda and they're all engineers with siblings who are also studying engineering?
I know its not only them who study it, but yhoo hayi i've met a number of them that are into it, its like engineering is the new BCom kubo. Just interested to know.

Renegade
01 Feb 2008 03:28

@felfel, mina where I studied, venda ppl were a minority(aren't we always), and in my family, i'm the only one who studied engineering, so i dont think i can answer your question coz i dont relate.

Lol @belz, u know how it is,the more u work, the less you get paid. Its crap, i wish i knew how they calculate how much a particular proffesion should get.

I think some gynae's are rip off's vele. Mina everytime i go for a consultation, the medical aid bill comes with exobirtant numbers, and yet i was only in that doctors office for less than 10 mins.

hai shem belz librarians also deserve a good reward @ the end of the day coz i mean it requires a special someone to be that mute and concentrating for such long hours, imagine if you were there to get a good book and u get it and it all torn and some of the pages are missing, they assist preserve history in a way!!!

sponono
01 Feb 2008 03:35

Belz..actually Librarianship entails more than such menial tasks...in fact librarians are nowadays Knowledge Managers, Information Managers and have to work with IT and Research Divisions, (of course there are those who make the proffession look bad by not enganging in a broader spectrum of the proffession...(just like teachers who've been in the same rural school for years and not even furthering their education and they cant even use the net.......

OK too much response..LOL

What is a kitchen Helper..is it like a dishwasher..and you can earn 90 thou...wow

01 Feb 2008 04:00

@ Belz, Sponza is right there is much more work that is involved in being a a Librarian, it's no longer just minial tasks like b4. And as a matter of fact the above figure is more or less what our Librarian earns emsebenzini wami!!!

Cutie Pie
01 Feb 2008 04:00

@ Maddie - I know of a CEO that got paid 3m per annum. So most of these figures are realistic. For my proffession though, it's quite right, almost accurate.
But to confirm this, go to www.salaryexpert.com
I think the kitchen helper refers to the ladies that work for the companies that help with tea and some refreshments. Where i used to work in 2006, the kitchen ladies were earning R5,000 per month (60,000) per annum. So i think this is more/ less right coz we are in 2008.

belz
01 Feb 2008 04:01

Sponono, really so the IT guy at our offices is also known as the "librarian", Gaad,we learn new things everyday, its just that in my time a librarian did exactly what i mentioned up there oh well.

sponono
01 Feb 2008 04:04

01 Feb 2008 04:06

the kitchen ladies were earning R5,000 > My Gaad!!! Cutie Pie really, this company  of ours needs to be taken to the CCMA, our ladies get half of that, angidlali. maybe i must just send this blog to my boss by mistake, and highlight my proffession while at it.

01 Feb 2008 04:06

I think some gynae's are rip off's vele. Mina everytime i go for a consultation, the medical aid bill comes with exobirtant numbers, and yet i was only in that doctors office for less than 10 mins.

You are so right Rene, and to top it all you receive an acc from the gynae AND the Laboratory....they are milking us dry ke a go botsa!!!

Me thinks the above figures are inflated or they refer to the upper end of those people's career. Another thing, I don't think a chemical eng earns more than a civil eng...

I don't mean to disrespect or offend anyone but when they talk about the secretary, are they refering to the PA to the MD/CEO of the company?because that figure is just way too high.I could go on but.........

belz
01 Feb 2008 04:08

LOL Preshiiii, utheni uJan? hahahahahah

Renegade
01 Feb 2008 04:08

Hai, i guess these things depend where you work. The kitchen lady at my office once asked me to help her fill out a woolworths account application form, and when i got to the part where they asked what her salary is, she said R1300, and another one that I'm used to, who works in a different building(dif contractor) told me one day that they were gonna go on strike coz they ddnt wanna give them the R3000 they were asking for. So nami I was a bit suprised by those figures.

belz
01 Feb 2008 04:10

yah nami i jsut calculated mine and according to this survey, im being focking screwed!!!!!!!!!!!!111

sponono
01 Feb 2008 04:10

belzito...dont be like that know...i said have to work with IT...didnt say they take over from IT specialists...it means they have to know about SAP about different databases and programms becasue they work with information resources, and this requires them to be aware of different aspects of IT ..NOt necessarilly BE an ITexpert.....In fact some librarians have added Infor Tech as their post grad qualitfations becaseu just like the IT division acting as the backbone of a comapny the library or information centre serves the same purpose just in a slightly different manner  but they both need information to be collected proccessed preserved prepared for retrieval  by the rest...(of course not all companies recognise the role of infor centres maybe thats why some people view them as such and even some librarians do not work hard enough to earn their place in the corporate........thats all  .Phew!!!!!

But i have a friend who is a secretary'PA, she drives a BMW 323i...And you find another secretary working for government who can't even afford a corsa lite. So nam bloggers i'm as concernced as you are.

When I was doing my articles, with one of the BIG 4 audit firms, i had a liberty of checking my collegue's salary. Am black, he's white. We had the same qualifications, same experience, but mine was about R2,500 less per month than his...Yho I was hurt for da whole year...If you are black, chances of being scre'''d are even bigger. This is the same company that paid the kitchen ladies R5,000 then, so there was no much difference between our salaries (I mean theirs and mine)...

Per Annum Loreal.

this does not seem like an accurate survey because it depends on the qualification and the experience. Like if a CEO is a CA it would be higher opposed to him/her having MBA....

Know what  the worst part is? WHat I'm fighting for is not even close to being listed on that survey. Eish kodwa!

Ngcono umuntu ayosebenzela i Lion Match atleast ngizewa kuthiwa yona iyazibhadala izisebenzi zayo, and they get paid weekly.
