Signs that you are getting old

I have just had a birthday about 9 days ago, and I must say getting older traumatises me. Anyhow to further confirm that I am maturing (not getting old) I realised that:

1. I don’t know anyone in Matric or Grade 12! When everyone was excited waking up early to get the paper, the 28th December was a non event to me. Except I was a bit depressed cause it was 2 days before I got even more older!

2. I no longer celebrate my birthday with my parents! In my family birthdays are big events, we do something special for the celebrant, but this year I opted to have a small braai at my place – I just told my parents to buy me a gift.

3. On the 31st of December (a day after I turned another year older) everyone was excited stocking up on booze, meat, snacks etc, to me this was another non event. I wasn’t phoning around to find out ukuthi “where’s it going down”. I was just chilling in my house, content as can be, thinking that if I really need company, I’ll go see my cousins.

4. Everyone in my family has or is going to have a baby! Cousins, sisters, brothers! Gosh, why am I so left behind??? I’m being called “auntie” left, right and centre.

5. I was watching “Are you smarter than a 5th grader” and I couldn’t get any answers right…Granted this was American version but has primary school become that difficult or is it just me (you better not say I’m stupid). The SA version of the show is coming, we’ll see if this confirms anything.

6. I can no longer stand Y-FM… I was a die hard fan, but I really cannot spend more than 5 minutes on the station.

7. I listen to SA FM, 702, Kaya FM and I actually enjoy it.

8. I watched a lot of CNN and BBC over the holidays, again I enjoyed these!!!

These are my signs that i'm "maturing" what are yours?

Nice one Dimago, couldn't agree with you more. I can't stand YFM. I am tuned in 702 at every chance I get and I enjoy it big time.

I used to love fireworks, now I don't go anywhere near them.
I now actually sit and watch the news on SKY.

LOL Cleave, i don't even bother to buy "crickets" and it's even such an effort to wake up at midnight to ring in the new year. All that HAPPY!!!!! stuff irritates the life out of me..

I was in matric last year, and young as I might be I do feel a bit older plus the fact that this Wednesday everbody is going back to school and I have to wake up and go to work. That is a really sad and nostalgic feeling.

I can no longer stand Y-FM… I was a die hard fan, but I really cannot spend more than 5 minutes on the station.

I feel you there, although im part of the 'youth' that they target I cant stand Y anymore. For me they have lost the plot...

I have just had a birthday about 9 days ago, and I must say getting older traumatises me.

1. It's like you  had me on this one, early today I was saying to a friend of mine that the thought yokuthi from now on I am forced to work even when I don't feel like it bcoz of the responsibilities that i now have is indeed traumartizing.

2.  lately I've stopped enjoying the fact that I leave far from my family, unlike those schooling days when I just enjoyed staying at a residence with frendz.

3. I find myself hating everything that is noisy, I now prefer laid back stuff

4. time is now important like never before

"Thixo ndicela indincede ungandi thathi ndisames ncinci, yoh kumnandi ukuphila hayi kumnandi emhlabeni." Mna sana I'm having the time of life at the moment. I don't have to worry about old age for another 2 decades. Student life rocks big time. Even though I'm broke 99,9 per cent of the time. But guys sitting at home alone on the 31st is sad. No matter how old you are.

I also watch CNN and the BBC. It's a matter of taste and different strokes for different type of thing.

i  honestly thot there was something wrong with me when i left long street round about 1 coz i somehow felt out of place, half my friends were home with their little ones and my 22 yr old sista dragged me along but I just couldnt, maybe it was the absence of my friends that made me feel out of place.
all that stuff about babies - i console myself by saing I need to find a partner first so I am in no hurry!

This is soooooo scary-I was going thru the same motions over this weekend.Am glad I aint the only one feeling that.

In fact I spent the holidays on my own, found solace in writing the next few pages of my novel(and lyrics to a song for a friend),I had joy in sitting on my balcony,Foundry and zol keeping me company.

Other than that, loud cars annoy me,same as screeching punks who dont know the direction to Kyalami for their souped up cars,I am beginning to hate Jet Li,my porn stash is more bothersome than exciting,my boozing friends arent smart enough and my young brothers set up meetings to talk to me....

And the bald spot is irritating bloody hell out of me.....

Thank goodness, there are people helping me to age.On new year's eve we went to some new year's thing,we got there just after twelve and by 01:15 my friend and I were yawning as if we were babies.By two we decided to go home,we had such a good laugh about getting old, thinking back to the olden days when we caused mayhem at functions like those. But we were better...my boyfriend went to sleep in the car 15minutes after we got there.Heish,go tsofala!

08 Jan 2008 03:11

1.3-4 years after i had matriculated i bought the paper cos i knew people who were still in matric but now haai bo, i do have little cousins in high school but then they will call and say they have passed/failed so there is no need for me to wake up.

2.birthdays- i prefare quite ones with my family and then go out with mr libra and if i decide to have a party it will be all chilled out with friends playing mature music  - no sista bettina  and no 6to 6 in my party-amazing how preferances change as we get old.

3,i was actually sad to notice how unaffected i was by the new year celebrations-the only reason mr libra and i went to buy fireworks was because he had little cousins visiting at his home and they wanted them but otherwise we would not have bothered - i am terrified of fireworks anyways i enjoy watching from a distance but the pollution in the air is too much and i feel sorry for stray dogs

4,i am now referred to as auntie - but i enjoy my nieces and nephews - it is a wonderful feeling and experience

6, never liked y fm but my choice of music is more mature these days.

nonetheless -  go tsofala yo o ratang - jus'keep on enyoying life - age aint nothing but a number

I feel the same too, my bday was 4 days back and instead of being excited as always I just got chills that wow gal u are getting old and did'nt want to do anything neither go out, my man keeps on asking what do u want ,where must we go - we endedup sitting at home which was fine by me & boring for him. I'm not into noise stuff anymore I feel relaxed at home  doing nothing other than changing TV channels or radio station. SAFM is my fav at the moment.

Oh heavens! Am I the only person that still thinks that b-days are the things to live for...?? This year I WAS planning a huge 3 day party - including a club party like Paris and Britney do it - with all amabloggers invited to share the moment of my 3rd decade with me... devastatingly I had to cancel the thought but God when I turn 40, I will still be on tvsa and I will throw a true Soul Sessions 4 day party with Eddie Zondi in his 60's DJ-ing the evening away...

Dims, I know you really hate celebrating your special day but my friend as I, mini Oprah, always say - "you are only as young as you feel..." Feel and do things that make you feel young and my dear friend, you put to shame some 16 year olds I know... You look so good that some 16 year olds actually look much older than you!!
