Pick n Pay & 94.7 arggggghh!!!!

This Sunday, many people in Jo’burg were inconvenienced by the Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge. Having this race meant that they close roads from traffic, unfortunately these are not just any roads; these are major roads that one has to use to get from one point to another. They closed off parts of the M1 – this is the freeway people!!!! Parts of Witkoppen road were also closed and unfortunately for me, that’s the only road I can use to get anywhere. We couldn’t go to church, couldn’t go to the mall, couldn’t visit friends, we basically couldn’t go ANYWHERE!!!!

We were stuck at home between 11h00 – 14h00….is this really fair? Should Pick n Pay and 94.7 just be allowed to close major roads cause they want to host a race? Why can’t they have it in some remote place, where there isn’t any traffic…and for that matter the authorities are in on this with them, they give them permission to inconvenience the rest of us? Just because we don’t ride bikes does not mean that our lives are not important. Granted they posted all those signs to warn us of the road closures, but this should not have been allowed from the beginning. YESES(with added emphasis), I was a disgruntled citizen yesterday.

it's bloody irritating, i agree with you - i worked on jazz on the lake a couple of years ago, and it is SO IRRITATING how the residents complained  about a couple of roads in 3 suburbs being closed (and for each closure, there was an alternative, nx!)  - but the race is ridiculous. the entire city is basically on lockdown!

me and everyone i know just stayed home  yesterday- pity because it was such a gorgeous day.... yeah, they need to take it out of jozi someplace where roads aren't hectic....

Hawuu Dimago,
Shame man….
I understand your pain…really I do….Getting up and going wherever you want at whatever time you want is what Democracy is all about….Right? ….Right…
BUT on the other hand I think we need to realize that yes we are all individuals but more importantly we are all individuals living within a society and unfortunately due to that we will find ourselves in situations where we need to sacrifice some of our “democratic rights” for the greater good of the people….So yes not being able to drive down on Witkoppen is a pain in the **s but unfortunately as a “member of society” you will have to bear this sort of pain once in a while….It’s what being part of the human race is all about….Compromise and accommodating others…Just like you would like them to be understanding when you run the Spar Ladies 10KM race or The Discovery Challenge as you have in the past….You expect the authorities make sure the road is safe for you Right???…. So the same should apply to the cyclists and wannabe cyclists…Askies…..Haaardieeee My Sista on this one!
Lets all just accommodate each other and be one big happy family Im sure the politicians would just love that!

Matendis: I agree with you...

Dimags: King K highlights this day at the beginning of the year; so I am constantly reminded that on "one of these days jozi is split into 2". So, we just stay home and gaze into each other's eyes... Next year, lock your man in the house and just sit still... It is only one day and the next day you are free to do ANYTHING! sorry, my friend... but I really do understand your frustration, that is one reason I love pretoria, none of these things happen there!

Thanks Matendi's enough said.
Democracy involves all of us, if the cyclist were denied their race just because of ppl like you, they ( cyclist ) will also question DEMOCRacy

I didnt say they shouldn't race, i said they should find alternative place where people will not be inconvinienced...that way no one'shas democratic right is infringed upon.

ha ha ha, I was out all night on Saturday and we decided we not gonna sleep.
So we drove from the South to Fourways. As you can imagine it was impossible to get there.
I felt like i was being punished for being hungover.
