After two years of broadcasting as a weekends-only channel, sharing DStv's Channel 55 with Summit TV, South Africa’s first channel dedicated to home improvement, décor, design and property is moving on up.
The Home Channel is moving from Channel 55 to its own dedicated, daily channel from 15 October. The channel number cannot yet be revealed, but we will alert you closer to the time.
Weekend viewing will stick to the tried and tested format that has fuelled the channel's success to date, while weekday viewing will bring a new dimension to the channel.
There will be numerous new décor and home improvement programming shows in prime time on weeknights.
From 19h00-20h00 home improvement, DIY and crafts shows will air every night. 20h00-21h00 is scheduled for décor and design shows, while Thursday nights will be devoted to design reality shows in which contestants pit their décor talents against each other.
Starting on Thursday 18 October at 20h00 is Design Interns. This 6-part series provides a revealing all-access pass into the exclusive, intimidating world of a powerhouse design firm, where 12 recent interior designer graduates compete for a coveted job. In each episode they face a design-based challenge.
On Friday nights at 19h00 will be 60 Minute Makeover, and at 20h00 there's a series on Worst Home Improvement/DIY, Worst Home, Worst Neighbour and Worst Builder.
Brand new to The Home Channel will be two hours of shows dedicated to you – from how to get out of debt to becoming a stylish dresser, from how to deal with your pets to throwing your children the best party in town.
At 21h00 on Thursdays there's Party Mamas, and at 21h00 on Fridays you can tune in to Diva on a Dime and So Chic at 21h30 (with Steven Sabados and Chris Hyndman of Design Rivals fame), if you think you’re in need of a bit of style guidance.
If you're already a fan of The Home Channel's weekend viewing, this could become your new best channel.
Catch The Home Channel on DStv 55 on Saturdays and Sundays, from 08h00-00h00.
It will premiere on its own new channel on Monday 15 October. The channel will broadcast from 08h00-00h00 on weekdays and 07h00-00h00 on weekends.
