Episode 306
“I do”

At first I thought that Kate’s flashback was rather boring, but on closer inspection, I suppose that in keeping with yesterday’s theme of love and all that, it revealed a few things about Kate.

Well, first, she was married to Captain Mal. Captain Mal! Can this woman possibly get any luckier? But she ditches Mal when she feels overwhelmed by it all. She claims to love him, but I have to wonder if she really did? Does she ditch him because she’s afraid of what he might do to her if he finds out the truth? Or does she run because she really loves him and wants to protect him?

Back in reality, Kate and Sawyer finally get it on! Considering how much I dislike Kate, I shouldn’t really be happy about it. But it was sweet, and I can’t help but smile that those two finally admit that they really do love each other.

The problem, however, is that now Benry knows it and Jackass know it too.

Benry, being the cunning, shrewd man that he is, will use it to his advantage. Jackass, being the colossal, stubborn jerk that he is, will use it too. Whether he uses it for his own gain, or to help Sawyer, Kate and himself remains to be seen. I’m of the opinion that Jack can be very juvenile when it comes to Sawyer and Kate.

He was obviously very shaken and upset to see that Kate had chosen Sawyer over him. Shame hey. And I am not being nasty, I really mean that. It can’t be easy seeing someone you care about choose someone else… again. Jack really does care about Kate, and I’m sure he thought that his feelings were reciprocated. I’m not sure that they ever were. I think that Kate, with her Kate ways made it clear who it was that she loved. And I can’t believe I’m talking about this like I’m in high school. Enough!

The problem is that this has upset Jackass, and Jackass tends to be very irrational when he’s upset (and he does seem to be upset quite a bit) and it leads to him doing stupid things – like trying to help Kate escape.

Ok, I’ll admit that it was not a bad plan. Admirable in fact. Jackass doesn’t know that he’s on Alcatraz and he’s just trying to help Kate escape. But like with everything else on this show, this is so ambiguous. Jackass refuses to operate on Benry until he sees Sawyer and Kate together. And he gets Benry to agree to set him free (but we don’t trust Ben, do we) and Benry has already set Michael free, so Jackass has to believe that Benry will let him go too.

So, the question is – did Jackass cut up Benry’s kidney to set Kate free and save Sawyer’s life? Or does he intend finding Kate and sailing off into the sunset with her? We haven’t seen him say anything about Sawyer as yet, and even though I know I say many terrible things about Jack, I can’t… no, I won’t believe that Jack could do such a thing. So, until I see differently, I’m going to assume that he means to help Sawyer as well as Kate.

It’s so interesting to see the lengths that Sawyer and Kate are prepared to go to protect each other. It makes me think that they are really well suited. Two loners, two liars, 2 murderers too afraid to trust anyone, too afraid of getting close to anyone and they find love with each other. Very sweet, actually.

But for me, the most interesting thing that happened was a comment made by Pickett. He says to his fellow Other “He wasn’t even on Jacob’s list” Who is Jacob??? Ethan Jacob? Juliet Jacob??? Jacob somebody -else??  Hmm. Have we been under the misconception that Benry is the man in charge???

Something else, or rather, someone else we should keep an eye on is Alex. She’s quite a feisty thing. I’m hoping that it’s not an act and that she really means to help them.

Meanwhile, Eko was laid to rest in the jungle – pretty much where he died. I was a bit surprised at this. Wouldn’t the other losties want to say goodbye? Is Locke planning on telling them that Eko died?? I’m sure Bernard and Charlie will enquire about him. And why lie about what killed him?? The losties need to be aware of the monster and not travel alone!

“Lift up your eyes and look north” is what Eko’s stick says to Locke. It apparently means something to Locke, judging at the look on his face. I have no clue what it means, and I can’t even hazard a guess at this point in time.

Well, the stage is set for a cracking episode next week. I cannot wait!

What we learnt this week:

• There’s a person named Jacob, and he/she has made a list.
• Pickett will stop at very little to kill Sawyer. I cannot wait for Sawyer to turn the tables on Pickett, and I have to believe that it will happen
• Benry is lying on Jack’s operating table, close to death
• Locke is back to being his usual secretive self

Interesting Screen Caps :)
