Season 3

The multi-award winning music collaboration show Jam Sandwich is back with its third season.

Jam Sandwich, which has a weekly hour long collaboration between two South African musicians or groups that come from different sides of the music spectrum, has served as a platform to show musicians in their natural habitat and explaining to audiences how the creative and collaborative process works.

The show that started as a late night signature show has, over the past seasons, grown into an epic showcase for the cream of South African musicians as well as served as a starting point for talent worthy of wider recognition.

Musicians that have participated in previous seasons include Zuluboy, Gerhard Steyn, JP, Valiant Swart, Karen Zoid, Sibongile Khumalo, KB, Van Coke Kartel and Big Nuz, who created their big hit, Ntombenhle with Bongani Nkwanyana as part of the show.

The last episode of Season 2, which featured Zulu Boy and Gerhard Steyn, came in at the top of the time table slot, with a record eight percent above the expected share.

The third season sees the addition of a rotating producer to add another challenge to achieving the goal of recording a song together that reflects the different styles of music involved. These producers include Nutty Nys, Peter Pearlson, Amu, Warric Sony, Neal Snyman and many more.

The line up for the new season includes:

Mandoza & Afrotraction

Street smart Mandoza meets the King of suave, Afrotraction, in an episode full of guns, past beefs and double bookings – none of which are Mandoza's doing. In the end the question is: will they be able to make a song in the limited studio time?

Piet Botha and Soweto String Quartet

When the King of South African blues and the son of an ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Piet Botha steps into the ring with the men from Soweto who rewrote the history of string quartets in this country, it's all sunny skies and braais.

Lloyd Cele and Laurie Levine

Lloyd Cele is a man on a mission and he won't let too many people stand in his way to get there. Laurie Levine is a folk singer with a seriously laid-back attitude. She does know what she wants and there are things she won't do.

Mr. Selwyn and Nancy G

Mr. Selwyn is on the comeback trail and Nancy G definitely falls in the category of "talent worthy of wider recognition" with her African gypsy folk. Will they be able to help each other's careers or will they pull each other down?

Pops Mohammed and The Frown

When South Africa's unofficial Minister of Music with his collection of traditional instruments hook up with Johannesburg trendoids, The Frown, it's an anything can happen situation – especially when Eskom refuses to play with...

Jack Parow and Klipwerf Orkes

Rolling Stone magazine called them "The most famous band you've never heard of". They've sold 1.5 million albums in a career that has spanned more than 40 years. Now Klipwerf Orkes goes head to head with rapper Jack Parow.

Other collaborations include Chris Chameleon and Ihashi Elimhlope, Auriol Hayes and Tribal Echo, Driemanskap and Mr. Cat and the Jackal, The Soil and Bittereinder, ProVerb and Nomfusi, iFani and H20/Stethoscope and EJ von Lyrik and Kunle Ayo.
