Season 3

The new season brings 26 fresh engaging dramas all South Africans can relate to. 11 of the eKasi dramas will be broadcast this year every Monday from 3 October to 12 December; the remaining 15 dramas will be flighted during 2012.

Season 3 was produced in and around different locations in Gauteng, from Soweto and Katlehong, to Alex. A successful partnership with the Gauteng Film Commission has allowed production of 26 dramas produced by four different production companies.

The heart of eKasi stories is the dynamism of township life. The third season brings in a fresh, uninhibited young perspective, provided by aspiring young filmmakers. In its essence eKasi is an empowerment brand that seeks to provide young filmmakers a platform to tell stories that mirror their day to day experiences.

The directing talent was a hybrid of young filmmakers and veteran award winners. Emerging filmmakers participating included former Zone 14 director Mpho Osei-Tutu, Durban International Film Festival award winning director Shaft Moropane, as well as Fanney Mahuntsi who directed the controversial After 9.

Veteran filmmakers such as Sechaba Morojele and Muntu Zwane brought in a wealth of production experience, which elevated the production quality of the dramas.

The crew behind the 3rd season of eKasi consists of a series of emerging filmmakers hungry to tell fresh stories which mirror the ever changing township lifestyle.

Different production companies such as Eclipse TV, headed by Thokozani Nkosi, Bheki Sibiya's Sobabili Productions, Vusi Twala's Seleke Communications and the female duo Makgano Mamabolo and Lodi Matsetela from Puo Pha Productions were the key drivers of this season.

All stories depict the decisions human beings are forced to make in different situations life presents to them. These are experiences we often face when life kicks us to the curb, when friends let us down and when lovers break promises. They are really stories about normal human beings finding their place in this life.

The quality of the scripts was enhanced by professional script writing principles infused by a creative team of writers. There is a wider variety of stories brought by a professional team of writers.

Head scriptwriter Lodi Matsetela oversaw the scripting of all 26 dramas. The streamlined script writing process ensured that the quality of the scripts was elevated from the previous seasons. The stories carry a variety of genres from dramas, comedy and thriller to action.

The stories were played out by a cast consisting of renowned South African actors working side by side with up-and-coming talent.

Viewers can look forward to performances by actors such as Matli Mohapeloa, Magic Hlatshwayo and Putla Sehlapelo.
