Season 2

Rise is a South African inter-generational multi-host lifestyle talk show produced by One Man And His Dog Films and aimed at young women between the ages of 14-25 years, which encourages these women to be greater than their circumstances.

The Soul City Institute embarked on intensive research which indicated that young women needed more support. While the South African national HIV infection rate has decreased in the last year, the infection rate among young women has increased.

The Rise Young Women's Clubs will be rolled out across the country to help young women to find support among their peers and receive information about health and lifestyle.

The show deals with pertinent topics including culture, informal settlements, unplanned pregnancy, cycles of abuse, the consequences of alcohol, transactional sex and body image.

The show encourages young women to take charge of the decisions they make; equip young women with the tools to better their circumstances create a space where young women can be listened to and be heard and increase communication with parents and guardians to close the gap that exists.

The show amplifies the Rise Young Women's club movement which empowers young women to advocate for their rights and become active in uplifting themselves and their communities. Members of the movement work together and support each other building self-efficacy and resilience and enabling access to safe choices, reducing new HIV infections.

The hosts in Season 1 were Lebo Ramafoko with Kgomotso Matsunyane, Khanyisile Mazibuko and Nyiko Shikwambane. Mbali Qotyana was added for the second half of the season. Only Lebo Ramafoko was retained for Season 2, with new co-hosts Phindile Sithole-Spong, Seadimo Tlale, Delisile Mzimela and Nokuthula Sikhakhane.

The series is executive produced by the Soul City Institute for Health and Development Communication in association with One Man and His Dog Films, with executive producer Kgomotso Matsunyane.
