Season 2

Spooks (also known as MI-5) is a British television drama series created by David Wolstencroft and produced by Kudos for BBC One. The title derives from a popular colloquialism for spies, as the series follows the work of a group of MI5 intelligence officers at Thames House.

The series aired in the UK on BBC One from 13 May, 2002 to 23 October, 2011. There are 86 hour-long episodes in 10 seasons.

Spooks originally premiered in South Africa on SABC3 on Saturday 2 November 2002, at 20h30. Only the first season aired on SABC3. The series later aired on DStv's BBC Entertainment (formerly BBC Prime) and Hallmark channels. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Season 2 originally aired on Hallmark from 4 February to 8 April, 2007, on Sundays at 21h00. There are 10 hour-long episodes in the season.

A rebroadcast of Season 2 premiered on Hallmark on Sunday 26 October 2008, at 21h00. Double episodes aired back-to-back weekly.

Season 2

The drama that takes us into the thrilling world of MI5, the clandestine security service, continues with Season 2.

There's organised crime, terrorist activities, embassy sieges, weapons proliferation, subversives, anarchists and drug traffickers, not to mention the conflicts and power struggles the elite team has to deal with back in the office.

In Season 2, the threat to national security is on the increase and the need to stop the activities of terrorists operating within the UK becomes more urgent.

Top agent Tom Quinn and his team find themselves at the heart of the action. The season gets off to an explosive start, when Tom's girlfriend Ellie and her young daughter are trapped inside a securely sealed house in which a bomb is about to explode, and there's no way out.

Among the other challenges they have to contend with are a visit by the US President, a war criminal on the run, a computer security breach at MI5, a poisonous gas explosion in the centre of London and a potential mutiny in the British army.

It's up to them to defend their country, and to try to deal with the psychological fall-out of leading such dangerous double lives.

Indeed, the cost of being a Spook comes with a price. The spies can never reveal their secret profession to their loved ones.

Spin-Off

Following the success of the BBC Three Doctor Who spin-off series, Torchwood, the controller of BBC Three, Julian Bellamy, announced a Spooks spin-off entitled Spooks: Code 9 in December 2006. The show premiered in the UK on 10 August, 2008.
