Season 1

Fame is an American television drama series created by Christopher Gore and based on the 1980 motion picture of the same name. Using a mixture of drama and music, it followed the lives of the students and faculty at the New York City High School for the Performing Arts.

Although fictional, it was based heavily on the actual Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York.

The series aired in the USA on NBC (1982-1983) and later in syndication (1983-1987). There are 136 hour-long episodes in six seasons.

The series originally aired in South Africa on the old SABC channels in the 1980s. It later premiered on TopTV's Fox Retro channel on Monday 3 May 2010, at 14h30. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Season 1 aired on Fox Retro from 3-24 May 2010, on weekdays at 14h30. New episodes aired daily, on weekdays. There are 16 episodes in the first season.
