Season 1

Rof of Spog (Rough or Smooth) is a South African travel documentary series created by Terence Bridgett and Paul du Toit and produced by Underdog Productions and Fanagalo Films in which Paul and Terence travel around South Africa exploring food, travel and lifestyle, at the same time reflecting our shared humanity and exploring the Southern African landscape.

The series - which has English and Afrikaans versions - premiered on SABC2 with the Afrikaans version on Friday 9 December 2011, at 18h00. The English version later aired on DStv's Mzansi Magic channel and the Afrikaans one on SABC3. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Rof of Spog premiered on SABC3 on Friday 14 February 2014, at 20h00. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 13 half-hour episodes in one season.

Synopsis

Old friends Paul du Toit and Terence Bridgett are well known for their television work, but what audiences might not know is how passionate they are about food, travel and the people and places of Southern Africa.

However, they live out this shared passion in very different ways.

Paul is rough; happiest with braai smoke in his eyes and a freshly dived crayfish steaming in kelp. He has climbed Kilimanjaro and surfed, dived and canoed all over the world.

Terence however, as befits the doyenne of the social pages, is smooth, preferring his crustacean served with the requisite Sauvignon Blanc.

This odd couple will guide audiences to the most remarkable and eclectic places; Paul taking a reluctant Terence through the rough experience while Terence nudges an under dressed Paul though the finer options available in the same places.

They will spear mullet in the Kosi Bay fish traps, ski in the Maloti Mountains, drink mampoer in Limpopo, do loxion kulcha, Soweto style and reveal their personal stories as they sing with Terence's alma mater, the Drakensberg boys choir and Paul paddles the Dusi canoe marathon.

While Rof of Spog is first and foremost a documentary, the personalities of Terence and Paul make it more accessible, creating informative and entertaining television.

Their varied perspectives not only allow viewers to celebrate our differences, but highlight the shared humanity of all South Africans and our neighbours.
