Bun&Bunee is a South African animated short television series produced and funded by animation studio Luma about two "bunee" brothers who have loads of fun while getting themselves in and out of trouble on their wacky, wild adventures.
The series premiered on SABC3 on Saturday 5 December 2009, at 18h59. New episodes air weekly. There are 52 one-minute episodes in the first season.
Synopsis
Bun and Bunee are two unusual bunee brothers and the stars of the show.
These two don’t always see eye to eye, (generally because Bunee is so much shorter) but in the end they are always there for each other as true brothers should be.
With their many quirky friends, they have loads of fun while getting themselves in and out of trouble on their wacky wild adventures.
The world of Bun&Bunee can be described as...squishy, and is inhabited by a myriad of unconventional characters, including assorted adversaries and allies, crazy collaborators, semi-vicious villains, scruffy scoundrels, silly sidekicks and awesome alter egos.
Background
Bun&Bunee started as a single animated short, but has since evolved into a lot more.
According to the creators of the series, the idea was to have fun with the most basic of character designs and to push their storytelling and animation abilities to the limit, while trying to make people laugh out loud.
The result is simple, lovable characters in funny, even crazy situations, providing light-hearted entertainment which is targeted at the whole family.
The Bun&Bunee series can be summed up as a mixture of classic Saturday morning cartoons and wacky, cutesy Anime style animation, executed in slick 3D.
The series was first seen in public when three episodes were voted overall winner of the Arts and Entertainment category of the Podcast Showdown. The winning episodes were aired on the big screens on stage at the My Coke Fest concerts in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
