SCARY Netflix releases first look at Season 3 of mindbending, horrifying anthology series Monster. The subject this season: murderer, suspected serial killer and body snatcher Ed Gein. He confessed to killing two women and... exhumed bodies from graveyards to make keepsakes from bones and skin. The Alfred Hitchcock Psycho movies are based on him. Premieres 3 October 2025. The synopsis:

Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm - hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare.

Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein's perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades.

From Psycho to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Gein's macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant.

Ed Gein didn't just influence a genre - he became the blueprint for modern horror.

A quote from Ryan Murphy (co-creator and executive producer of the anthology):

"The thesis statement of every season is: are monsters born or are they made? I think in Ed's case, it's probably a little of both."

And from Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), who plays Gein:

"This is going to be the really human, tender, unflinching, no-holds-barred exploration of who Ed was and what he did. But who he was being at the center of it, rather than what he did."

Grisly flash facts on Gein:

He was convicted of murdering two women: tavern owner Mary Hogan and hardware store ownder Bernice Worden.

Authorities suspected he killed others, but there was never enough evidence to charge him with additional murders.

His notoriety came from what he would do in his home - he made furniture, clothing and household items from human body parts that he dug up in graveyards.

Examples: bowls made from human skulls, a lampshade made from a human face and a pair of lips as a drawstring for a blind.

He was obsessed with his mother. After she died, he started robbing the graves of recently deceased women who resembled her.

He tanned their skins and stitched them together into masks, vests and a full “woman suit.”

Investigators later concluded that he wanted to “become” his mother by literally wearing the skin of women.
