Have you been watching the NBA games, now proudly brought to you by SABC 1 the home of "soccer"? Yep I said soccer... Mos the promo say that… Hopefully one day it will be the home of "basketball" too and we won't have two boys playing soccer during the ad breaks.
And just to clarify, ESPN on DSTV has been showing the games since forever, so the NBA in South Africa is nothing new.
If you're still trying to figure out what the heck the NBA is about, I'll sum it up in one word as - Basketball. However once you're familiar with the game you can sum it up as "Hotties!" - yoh, yoh, yoh, some of those guys make a lady wanna take the first flight heading to the US. It's hotness galore.
After the hotness you can sum it up in one word as "Banked!" You think your Samuel Eto's, Ronaldo's and Messi's are getting paid? You better check out what basketball players get. It's $$$$$$$$ that will make you go dizzy and ladies have made it a career to bag a player and keep him. Ask the "Basketballers Wives"
On the real though. NBA stands for National Basketball Association and is the official basketball league in the world. NBA players are the best paid sportsmen in the world. Ya, ya, we know Tiger Woods is the best paid sportsman in the world, but let's not forget that he plays more than golf... he plays them ladies too. lol
Actually, I believe that basketball is more than just a sport, it's a culture. It's synonymous to the Bling Life, Hip Hop music and unending scandals... think - Kobe Bryant and his unending divorce; cougar Eva Longoria being played by Tony Parker, Lamar being dropped by his team because he was trying to Keep Up With The Kardashians, then the almost 40 year old Gabrielle Union getting jiggy with Dwayne Wade who just turned 30 years old.
South Africa also joined in the whole basketball fever with the ESPN Celebrity Basketball Showdown which took place last month featuring the likes of Slikour, Shugasmackx, Clint Brink, Akin Omotoso, AKA, Loyiso Gola, Kabelo Ngakane, Dj Milkshake, Dj Switch, Dj Dimplez, Tuks Senganga, Tumisho Masha, Slim and many other personalities. Oh and let me not forget... TVSA's Pruluv was also one of the players and the only female too. She was also named the MVP (Most Valued Player). Yep that's me!!! I'm such a luver of things *Hides*
So, we are now in the Playoff Finals and it's getting more and more exciting. It's the Miami Heat going against Oklahoma City Thunders. The players to look out for are Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh from Miami Heat and on the Oklahoma City Thunders side, it's Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Thabo Sefolosha (Yep, you read right, he's a Swiss/South African.)
So, have you been following the games? Do you understand anything about basketball and the NBA? OR you just don't care??
My money is on Miami Heat, the boys will be crowded the champions. Watch this space. Lol
