On Wednesday night (26 October) M-Net hosted a bash to toast the paycaster's 25 years of broadcasting. Celebrations started at the beginning of October with the birthday promos we've been seeing on-air and culminated in a blitz of party's.
The party was one of three that went down this week: the first was on Tuesday for Multichoice advertisers and the third was last night (Thursday, 27th), for staff who've been with M-Net for 20 to 25 years.
Wednesday's shindig was for journalists and publications who've covered M-Net over the years and for government dignitaries. Guests also included M-Net personalities and hotshots from international networks whose shows are on the M-Net channels, networks such as HBO, ABC and Disney.
M-Net and Multichoice bigwigs paid tribute to the contributions of guests and toasted the growth of M-Net into Multichoice and DStv. Their chatter was accompanied by performances in between, headlined by Lloyd Cele, Terence Bridgett, Dave van Vuuren and Vicky Sampson.
And sizzling round it was lots of boozing and snapping going on - which I got involved in for us natch.
Without further adieu, I present flashes of the night ...
Gift Gwe gets his kink on with Philicity Reeken's shoes. Turns out Gift's returned to Cape Town - he moved to Jozi after Idols - and he now lives just round the corner from me so I'm gonna pop to visit him for us soon.
Philicity buys high heels and doesn't wear them, except for when she's at home - she walks down the corridor in them and then changes into flats to go out. She hasn't worn these shoes out in over a year.
Sindi Nene in a popular fash. trend for the night: trains. Loads of people were wearing them in that exact length so they're obviously the in thang, like Moooey (Moet) - which was on tap again. Sindi's just released her first album called Infinite. It's already available throughout Cape Town and in various stores round the country - it goes 100% countrywide this Monday.Sindi's way of coping with Kurt Darren's "do".Mark Bayly looking slurpy as per - he hasn't aged a day since his first Survivor stint has he? What's he up to now? He has his own radio show on 2 oceansviberadio.
Sindi gets it together, obviously thinking: "If I just look at the camera instead of Kurt's hair I'll be okay."
Elana Afrika getting dreamy-eyed for Mark. She was offering him "directions" on how to get to a venue he needed to get to after the party.
Anele Mdoda getting dreamy-eyed for Randall Abrahams. We saw them party'ing at Clay's shindig and a week later they're still at it. Word from Randall is that they're a threesome: his glass = number three. No train but in another fash. trend of the night: red. Survivor Malaysia's Amanda Hoosen - who seems to be tight with some of the cast of her season and other Survivors. Vanessa Marawa who's gone into hiding in Stanford in Cape Town - near Hermanus and Gansbaai. She has a house in Muizenberg but decided she needs some time out so she's rented out her house and she's hiring a spot in Stanford to take a break from the rat race.
She's just finished filming a pilot for a new lifestyle/property/finance show that she's going to shop round to channels soon.
Philicity with fellow Coconuts actress Shaeleen Tobin. Word from the pair is that there might be a third season of the show, to air on Mzansi Magic this time.
Getting bowled over by Makhaya Ntini: the first time I've met him.
Carmel Fisher, the only person spotted in pink.
Connie and Shona Ferguson were in the centre of the action and in high demand as per.You can't see Connie's outfit so clearly here so let me explain: it was a body hugging dress jumpsuit that fitted so perfectly it was like a second skin, with this detail on the back:
Sasha-Lee Davids, representing for Idols winners and her new reality show House Of Davids. Elvis Blue was there too. Other winners who were missing in action: Anke Pietrangeli , Karin Kortje and Heinz Winckler - who couldn't make it because of having an op on a tooth.
Representing for Idols' runners-up (with Gift): Bianca Le Grange, in an Errol Arendz. I didn't spot any other Idols finalists - nor Nonhle Thema, who was defs not there. Tumisho Masha preparing for a tray of double sized Suitcases that suddenly arrived to wrap the party.Lights out: Vanessa at the very end of the night once most everyone had left, in a Cindy Bam - a Cape Town designer who's starting to make a fash. splash.
The afterparty dirrrrrtAfter the bash those who'd travelled to the party from Cape Town hit my hotel room with Moooey to continue the party into the early hours. I got so carried away feeling like a wild rockstar - you know how they always do these sorts of things - that I can't remember anything that happened except that I ended up flashing my butt to everyone, ha!
