I always complain about some of the programming on SABC 1 but I really think SABC 1 has out done itself when it comes to funding and producing some very cool and innovative local programmes.

Last night I was watching Head Wrap and I was totally blown away. On the show they had an afrikaans kid ,who specialises in stop-animation and a Venda Mama who specialises in clay and pottery work. Their story was such a joy to watch, the two overcoming language barriers, the interaction between the two from very different worlds that was actually positve and rewarding for both and the merger of both art forms.

The cherry on top was their final outcome of a clay animated short done through stop animation. It was both visually stunning and creativily well excuted. It was one of the best episodes i've ever seen on tv.Plus the show is shot well and edited nicely,it made me feel very proud.

then theres the Yo-tv set up. I believe SABC 's1 yo-tv-room or wild room or whatever they call it now is probably the best watched kids - teen programming in the country. The energy and innovation on the show beats the Ktv and the craze brands hands down.

Once in a while when im bumming around the house,i actually get entartained by the show although im way out of the target market. Plus they keep reinventing it by getting fresh blood almost on a yearly basis.which is cool.

SABC 1 support for local dramas is unmatched by any of the sister channels, the ugly step sister etv and even mnet in my humble opinion. From the four part mini-serieses that brought us Society, After 9 and Chisa to the Shakespeare in Mzansi. I dont think any of the other local stations have funded as much local drama as SABC 1 has done for the past two years alone. Which i think is really cool.

Then theres the local doccies and short films that SABC 1 has continued to screen, year in and year out. Although a case could be made they are not always new and fresh but at least they try to screen more of our own produced doccies and shorts which i think they have to complimented on.

Although there are still alot of things wrong with the SABC in general and SABC 1 by default, for me theres a lot of positives that if SABC 1 builds on and improves on.It can be a better and more note worthy channel, but i believe their on the right track. They are truely Mzansi story tellers

Wow, an article that is Pro-SABC 1! Lol, but you raise valid points here, they are trying. Mina I think I just don't like most of the content, but that's just coz it doesn't appeal to me, I'm more likely to be watching SABC 3 that SABC 1 at any given time.

My favourite shows are not on SABC 1, but I do give credit where it's due, and they do by far have the best kiddies show.

Do the kids really watch yo-tv? The only time I watch SABC1, is when they are broadcasting soccer and I am at a shebeen (for lack of a better word) drinking beer. Normally watch with the sound off and listening to music.

If they can move "Asikhulume" to week days I may have interest in watching the show. Weekends for me are reserved for my social life and it is non negotiable. The commander in chief also knows that.

Other than the above, have no interest in watching SABC1 whatsoever.

Renegade i also dont really watch alot of SABC 1 but i watch specific stuff on it.  ive come to realise that the stuff that i watch on the channel is actually localy based and produced.i think they are really trying to tell our stories which i think its a great thing

LOL @realist, THERE is not better word.

That's how I feel about girlfriend's though, Mina on a friday night at 8h30, its very rare that you'll find me indoors watching TV. And i do like that show, I wish it was a on a wednesday.
And speaking of Asikhulume, I watched it last sunday, and the new presenter was very biased, he kept wanting to impose his views on Mlilo, and him and the other guest were ganging up on him, hai bo!
But what happened to the female presenter they had after Xolani? Was she not cutting it?

@Thabang - ya, it's just that there are shows that are good, and you'll watch them, simple. But the problem that I always go on about  is that people's remotes are always on 1, regardless of what's on.
But I've been missing a lot of shows lately, even my outmost favourite, Khumbul'ekhaya, which I haven't see for 3 weeks now! (hence the lack of a recap!)

I dont watch fosho at all but since monday i have for the sake of my toddler who's Mzansian fosho. I tortuted myself ngeJika-majika izolo coz boy loves but its worst show ever.I would not safely say they have improved coz i am not familiar with their programmes.

Do the kids really watch yo-tv?

Realist I think they do, I also watch on Saturday morning, it has its never dying appeal and always enjoyable. That Cecilia child is very talelented & has an amazing personality to keep u glued even if you are a 27 year old sgrizzana like me.I personally think Fosho really blessed us with the best kids shows since our childhood days, remember Kideo?, I used to love the Molly metronome tune.Tidi-tidi- kideo-kideo! where is that Tsholofelo girl (looks like Raven Symone)? saw her in Rosebank 3-4yrs ago and she had gained a lot of weight

my boss suffers from that and he has just bought dstv and he is still to venture out and explore. But my one and big criticsm of one is the quality of the production that they produce.its very inconsistent.but i appreciate it them trying to keep the channel local

Another thing, with shows like Jika ma Jika, which I think we should all agree is crap, I find that it has it's fans. Like the other day Sbu on yfm was asking ppl what their favourite SABC 1 show is, and some grown sounding guy, took the time to call in, and say his favourte show is teh one and only Jika maJika.
I decided to pretend he was just trying to be funny, coz i dont see a grown decent man enjoying that show, but the reality is that at the end of the day, as much as I hate most of the shows on SABC1, someone out there, actually likes them.

@renegade for some people its not about the full package: how it looks, how it enriches me or how it makes me feel. its just about the spectacle.some people are fortunate to be abe to watch stuff like Jika Majika and just enjoy to see the people dancing and thats it.They never ask themselves why the set looks so dodgy, what do these people get from this, what actually is the prize? they just want to see dancing and they dont care how its packaged.its just goes to show different strokes for different folks i guess.

SABC 1 is the BEST channel on TV for me
If you aren't their target audience (wassup realist), you will not get it.
If you love and support MZANZI FO SHO (as in proudly south african) shows then it don't get better than SABC 1.
Sorry, I can't help it, I'm an SABC 1 groupie...and since I'm gonna be running the channel in 5 years, I have to observe and study them with a keen eye.

I'm king of the road but I don't jump like a toed
Boing Boing boing boing
Ha ha ha ha ha ha

ETV has the worst kid's shows from back in the Salamina & Stephina days. There is a child newsreader on FOsho who is so hot ngabo 4 so in the afternoon with pointy ears damn that lil boy is hot.

I'm gonna repeat this question, maybe someon can answer me.

And speaking of Asikhulume, I watched it last sunday, and the new presenter was very biased, he kept wanting to impose his views on Mlilo, and him and the other guest were ganging up on him, hai bo!
But what happened to the female presenter they had after Xolani? Was she not cutting it?

You know we belong together

Just to know...(just to know)
You are there...(you are there)
Hold me in your arms

I want to stay forever

Closer each day
