South Africa's television award season fired up in Johannesburg on Thursday night (19 February) when the nominees for the second Royalty Soapie Awards were announced.

Scandal! and isiBaya headlined the night by bagging 16 nominations each while 7de Laan put in the next most notable performance with 14 noms.

Five soapies didn't enter the awards and haven't received nominations as a result so shows you won't see on the nominee list are: Binnelanders, Generations (we all know why!), Rhythm City, Skeem Saam and Zabalaza. All of them (except Binnelanders*) have been nominated for the People's Choice Award though because all soapies have automatically been nominated for this category. The winner of this category will be decided by public vote.

The winners of the performance categories will be decided by viewer votes too. The awards have introduced a new development this year when it comes to the voting procedure for performances. These categories now involve a two-step process: a peer review and a popular vote by the public.

A judging panel consisting of TV industry experts has adjudicated all the performance category entries to come up with the nominee list and now viewers can vote for the winner. The winners of the technical and creative categories will be chosen by the judges only.

And now, without further adieu, these are the nominees:

Flash facts on this category:
- All entries must have been broadcast in South Africa for the period of 11 July 2013 to 10 July 2014 (the entry broadcast period) so voting is for the Old Generations which was on air at the time.
- Skeem Saam isn't included because it became a soapie on 1 July 2014.
- Binnelanders* isn't listed because the show requested not to be included in the awards, including this category.

This list loks like its recyled from last year's land dry!

Why are some categories limited with two nominees only? and for the oustanding audio it means Isbaya automatically wins? tjoooo

Ja, I don't understand how those categories work - I think there's only one show nominated because it's the only show that entered that category but I don't know for sure. If it is the case then the judges should have made the nominations instead of basing them on entries.

these categories are very absurd. Generations axed actor/Actress should be nominated for their best work. I would like Katlego Danke to be nominated for best Lead Actress, ofcourse with her professional work.
