ABOUT

From the founder of the Discovery Channel, Curiosity Channel debuted in South Africa on 21 November, 2019. It was known as CuriosityStream at launch, but changed name to Curiosity Channel on 18 August, 2020.

The change was to differentiate the brand globally between CuriosityStream (the global streaming service); Curiosity on Demand (US only) and Curiosity Channel (pay TV service in sub-Saharan Africa).

The channel showcases experts from Stephen Hawking to Veritasium's Derek Muller, with stunning visuals and storytelling to demystify science, technology, history and nature.

Whether you want to explore Mars or travel back to ancient civilizations, Curiosity Channel adds new binge-worthy films and series each week.

The aim is to entertain, enlighten and inspire, with access available worldwide on television, laptops or mobile devices.

The original CuriosityStream's content library was divided into four main areas: Science, Technology, Civilization and Human Spirit.

After the channel refresh in 2020, the brand positioned itself as "captivating, knowledge-expanding, factual entertainment that lets people explore their passions and discover new ones in the fields of science, wildlife, nature, history, lifestyle, forensics, travel, adventure, and much more."

Content available at launch in South Africa included Breakthrough, Butterfly Effect, 101 Events That Made The 20th Century, Apocalypse: WWI, Tales of Nature, The Secret Lives of Big Cats, Crime Scene Solvers, A Curious World, Scanning the Pyramids, Destiny of Rome, Bronze Age and The Twilight of Civilizations.

In August 2020 themed nights were added, as follows:

Mondays: Science
Tuesdays: History
Wednesdays: Wildlife & Nature
Thursdays: Forensics & Crime
Fridays: Travel & Adventure
Saturdays: Human Stories
Sundays: Best of Curiosity
