As you very probably know the 12th season of Survivor is just around the corner. It starts on Tuesday, 31 October at 19h30 on SABC3 and it’s da bomb big time. I’ve caught the first episode and I just
so know you’re gonna be finished by it.
There are a Pigs aplenty at first glance, there's stabby-stabby from the beginning, superbo music, a thrilling opening and moist, stubby fingernails.
Like the
South African and
African series, the show’s set in Panama and the season introduces a new element to the game called Exile Island. The hysterical thing about it is that I saw another clip of Survivor SA’s
Dead Man’s Island in a promo this week and realised that it’s the exact same island the Americans go into Exile on.
The way Exile Island works is different from Dead Man's though and it comes into play during every episode after each Reward Challenge. The losing tribe has to send one of their members to the island where they stay until just before the Immunity Challenge.
The island has zilch on it except a massive skull and, very importantly, a hidden Immunity Idol and poetic clues as to where to find it.
The idea is that whoever finds it can hide it and then use it as Immunity when the need arises, up until the game reaches the final four – at which point it becomes useless so they have to use it before then. The impact it has sets in from the first episode and adds an excellently juicy dynamic.
And now, without further adieu, I know you’ll be dying for a spoiler-free smidgen-sneak at the show - here it is!
